A young Nigerian lawyer, in a confession with Punch says child abuse turned him gay. segxwal abuse by an older male, when he was growing up, altered his segxwality. Thompson Emuche (not real name) is now a sad man. And at 24, he has a dilemma that he’s afraid to share with his family and friends.

Fighting back tears, Emuche shared his story with Punch::
“I did not set out to be gay. I do not believe I was born gay; I was abused by an older neighbour when I was young. I grew up in a good Christian home. My dad was a traveller and he was never around. So, my mother played a major role in the upbringing of my siblings and I. I had an amazing upbringing, as I never lacked anything. My growth intellectually was above my
age, I guess that’s why I am able to remember the things that happened when I was five years old.”
He recalls that he was initially introduced to the act of oral sex at a very tender age.
“We lived in a two-storey building. I was between five and eight years old, but I remember performing fellatio on one of my older neighbours always. He used to take me to hidden corners of the staircase, and compelled me to carry out the act on him. He was living with his elder sister. I was in early primary school then, while he was about finishing secondary school.
As a young and naïve child, the act thrilled me; but I didn’t know what it meant. He was close to my family; I guess that was why my family did not suspect anything.”
According to Emuche, the neighbour left town after he completed his secondary education but the act influenced his segxwal attraction to the male sex.
“It gave me a wrong impression of sex and segxwal activities in later years. I didn’t get into the act fully, until I got into the university. An Iranian man has been sentenced to having his eyes gouged out, his right ear and nose cut off as punishment for throwing acid in the face of a young girl causing her to lose her eyesight, right ear and nose, an Iranian court has ruled.

Haartez.com  reports that the man was convicted in October 2013 of intentionally attacking the girl after a love gone sour. Iran’s high court wants the body parts the victim lost during the vicious attack to be removed from the perpetrator’s body as payback and have defended their decision.

The national council said Iran’s high court defended cutting off the body parts of those found guilty of a crime, and removing eyes, as part of the country’s judicial system.see full photos here

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa announced the sad passage of an 80 year old woman who died under a train.
They said woman was crushed by the train as she was trying to cross the rail line around 4p.m on Tuesday.
They said the woman hails from Karidu village in Birniwa local government area of Jigawa and has been buried in line with Islamic tradition.

In the Bible, Jesus managed to turn water into wine with the wave of a hand – the Miracle Machine isn’t quite that quick but it can transform everyday liquids into plonk in just three days.

Developed by wine experts in California, the machine can even make different types and styles of wine, including Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.

Users can track the progress of their wine using a free smartphone app, and its makers claim the wine produced is as good as a $20 bottle, for the equivalent of $2 (£1.20).

Miracle Machine was created by the founders of Customvine in California.

CEO Kevin Boyer is a sommelier and founded the Boyanci winery in Napa Valley, while Philip James is a British entrepreneur and founder of wine site Lot18.

To create wine using the Miracle Machine, users add a sachet of ingredients, choose the type and style of wine they want to create, and start the machine.

They can then monitor the fermentation process via a free iOS or Android smartphone app.

The app will also alert the user when the fermentation has finished and the wine is ready to drink.

The pair hasn’t revealed the exact science behind the machine, but said the fermentation chamber uses electrical sensors, transducers, heaters and pumps ‘to provide a controlled environment for the primary and, as needed, secondary fermentation stages.’



For example, a digital ‘refractometer measures the sugar content of the liquid during the fermentation process, while an air-diffuser passes filtered air through a so-called ‘micro-oxygenated’ channel.

The machine also has an ultrasonic transducer under the chamber that can speed up the flavour and development of the wine.

‘Just like the Bible miracle, it literally turns water into wine, with just the addition of a few ingredients in a fraction of the time and cost it would normally take,‘ explained Boyer.

After a user has chosen a wine they want to make, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, they can choose what style they want, including ‘fruity’, ‘forward’ and ‘lively’.

The pair has created a prototype Miracle Machine and is now looking for funding to produce more.

If successful, the Miracle Machine is expected to go on sale ‘later this year’ for $499 (£299) each.

Owners will then be able to buy the grape concentrate, yeast, and other sachet of ingredients from the Miracle Machine website, or from Amazon.

Each kit will make a different type of wine and the firm will launch with six variations including Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay from Napa Valley, a Pinot Noir from Oregon, a Tuscan blend from Italy, Sauvignon Blanc from Sonoma, plus a red and white from Burgundy.

They said they expect to add another five to ten varieties over the next three months.

The exact price of the ingredient kits hasn’t been announced, but Boyer claims it will equate to around $2 (£1.20) a bottle for a wine that he would expect to pay ‘$20+ (£12) for, at minimum.’

The firm also said it’s planning to create a low cost monthly wine club, where customers can pay less than $10 (£6) a month for a range of kits – enough to make a bottle of wine a week.

President Goodluck Jonathan has sworn in eleven new ministers who where all cleared by the Senate.

President said Aliyu Gusau, a retired general and former spy master, will serve as Minister of Defence; while Musiliu Obanikoro, a former senator, will serve as Minister of State for Defence.
Mohammed Wakil is to serve as Minister of State Power, while Abduljelili Adesiyan will serve as Minister of Police Affairs, and Aminu Wali will serve as Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Akon Eyakenyi will serve as Minister of Land and Housing, while Lawrencia Mallam will serve as Minister of Environment. Asabe Ahmed will serve as Minister of State for Agriculture, Boni Haruna will serve as Minister of Youth Development, and Khaliru Alhassan will serve as Minister of State for Health.
The President announced Tamuno Danagogo as new Minister of Sports, to replace Mr. Abdulahi, whose sack was later announced by Reuben Abati, the presidential spokesperson.
Speaking further at the short ceremony which held at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, before the commencement of the weekly meeting of the Executive Council of the Federation, Mr. Jonathan announced that more ministers are expected to come in next week. He charged the new ministers to be creative and ensure they succeed in the tasks ahead of them. “Next week more ministers will come in.
After that we would have clear cut discussion of how the FEC will run,” he said. He noted that being Nigerians, the new appointees already know the problems the country is facing as the challenges are projected on a daily basis by the media. He told the ministers that they have to succeed in their appointments.
“Public office is public trust and you owe the people a public good. “We must listen to the people. I want you to see yourselves as servants. If by the time you are leaving, you cannot say that you have brought some innovations with your creativity, then you have failed,” he said.
“Your duty is to ensure that you bring positive changes. You have to relate well with your colleagues. Because of the conflict between the ministers and ministers of state, we will make sure we review the schedules to curtail such conflicts,” the president said. He also urged them to work together and be team players.

According to new data, about 34,000 women die every year because of complications from abortions in Nigeria.
The number was revealed by Dr Kate Ezeofor, President-General of a woman’s group of Umuada Igbo Nigeria and Diaspora, the group representing 7 Igbo. According to her, one woman dies every 6 minutes because of complications of abortions, labour or haemorrhage. Being one of the countries with high maternal mortality rate – 1,000 out of 100,000 birth in total, Nigeria requires a number of means for helping young women plan families, have better natal care, safer deliveries.
As in Nigeria the law strictly forbids abortions, women turn to unsafe illegal doctors. The law allows abortion only if the pregnancy is a threat to a woman’s life. According to Dr Kate Ezeotor, one of the causes for high number of unsafe abortions is the rate of rapes particularly in Rivers State. The victims find it difficult to report the case out of fear of judgement.
Some women keep birth control hidden from their husbands out of fear. Most remain ignorant on how to use birth control and how to plan families.
The group offers free legal advice to any women looking for support, in difficult situation or simply looking for consultation.

Krista Guarino is only nine years old yet has already proved she is an expert snake handler.

The brave schoolgirl lives with a staggering 30 reptiles, including anacondas and a 12ft python at her home in Warren, a suburb of Detroit, Michigan.

She eats, sleeps and plays with the creatures – some of which are twice her size.

And she’s even been bitten a few times but none of the snakes are venomous – and courageous Krista says it doesn’t hurt.

She said: ‘I’m never afraid of snakes, not even a little bit. I’m crazy for them.’

Krista, the eldest of three children, was first introduced to the animals by father Jamie, 33, who is a snake specialist. And she held her first when she was just two years old.

Mr Guarino said: ‘Snake was one of her first ever words. I knew when she was very little that they were going to be her passion.

‘From an early age she wasn’t like a normal kid – she wasn’t afraid of snakes at all. She just wants to go up and grab them and pet them and play with them.’

During the summer holidays Krista helps her father out at their local reptile house. And isn’t afraid to play, train and handle any snake. She even helps to feed the alligators.

The father and daughter also enjoy weekends searching for rattlesnakes, some of the most dangerous snakes in the world.

The pair upload videos all their adventures to their YouTube channel SnakeHuntersTV.

Mr Guarino said: ‘Krista would rather play with the snakes than her friends at school.’

But not everyone is as comfortable around the animals as Krista.

Mother Ashli, 28, admits she hated snakes before she met Jamie but has gradually become used to having them in the house.

And Mr Guarino’s mother, Laura, 55, says she hasn’t always been comfortable with her granddaughter playing with snakes.

She said: ‘I don’t like snakes at all and it really bothers me when I see Krista handling them. ‘

But Mr Guarino insists his daughter has never been in any danger.

He said: ‘I’ve had some negative comments from people saying that snakes are evil and I shouldn’t let my daughter be around them because she could be killed.

‘These people are really ignorant about snakes. My daughter is never in any danger. This is what Krista loves and I don’t want to deprive her of that.

‘She is really smart and knows which snakes are safe and which aren’t. She really understands them and handles them like a responsible adult would. I don’t worry about her at all.

‘It’s fascinating to watch her with them – she’s so comfortable with them. I sometimes can ‘t believe that my young daughter is so incredible with the animals.’

He added: ‘Unfortunately snakes have a very bad reputation and I’m trying to get it across to people that they’re not as bad as they’re made out to be. They’re not monsters.’

Krista has already set her sights on opening her own reptile zoo when she’s older. And she’s determined to change perceptions about the misunderstood snake.

She added: ‘Some people are afraid of snakes and they want to kill them but I think they’re really cool and interesting. One day I want to own every kind of reptile in the world.’WATCH VIDEO HERE

The accidental entrepreneur is an
article I wanted to write several weeks
ago but never got around to writing,
mainly because I was watching Lupita
Nyong’o videos on youtube. The article
was going to be about entrepreneurs
who stumbled upon success
accidentally. Entrepreneurs who
started something like blogging,
singing, speaking and became suddenly
successful at it. When they started out
their original plan was not to start a
business or make money out of what
they did…but somehow they stumbled
upon success. I call these people
accidental entrepreneurs. Beware of
taking advice from such individuals…
because they will tell you do what your
passionate about and boom you will be
successful. (Ha please ignore him on
this; it is not true, lol). But before you
start singing “Ofili you don come
again.” Make una hear me out…
Because weirdly enough this article will
not be about entrepreneurship…but
rather relationships, particularly
Omotola’s article on gender equality or
inequality depending on your stance. In
her own words, no editing, she says:
“I don’t believe in gender equality. I do
not believe that God made man and
woman to be equal in any way. I believe
that in every organised institution,
there is always a head and an assistant.
It doesn’t mean that one should take
the other for granted, or disrespect
the other. I believe the husband is the
head of the home and the wife is an
assistant. My husband is a pilot, I have
flown with him several times and I
understood that here is a captain and a
co-pilot. They are both responsible for
the passengers’ lives. But when there is
a final decision to make, it is up to the
captain to make it. He is more
experienced and the one with the
responsibility.”
“When there is a quarrel, I usually
apologise first. He doesn’t say sorry.
Overtime, I have come to realise that
it is an ego problem. Even when he
knows he is wrong, he will rather do
every other thing or buy things for me
than say, ‘I’m sorry.’ Fortunately, the
‘sorrys’ are not too many. He is very
responsible and more hardworking than
me. By God’s grace, we have been able
to understand our routine.”
Similar to the accidental entrepreneur,
I term this situation the accidental
relationship…that is that girl or guy
that stumbles upon the perfect first
girlfriend or boyfriend. They
eventually get married and have a
successful marriage and instantly start
dishing advice and people start eating
up the advice… please don’t.
Because the advice they give you is one
dimensional. It is based on this belief
that whatever they did worked. So you
hear silly advice like “as a woman just
cry and your husband will hug you” or
“be submissive to your husband and he
will cherish you” or “just tithe every
Sunday and your relationship will be
fine” or “my Husband never apologizes…
that is a good thing!” like wtf!
The thing is that tantamount to the
accidental entrepreneur they
(especially Omotola) stumbled upon
their relationship. In Omotola’s case as
her husband states in the same
interview, there was no courtship, they
never dated, she was just 18 and had
never been in a relationship and yet it
worked out….but accidentally.
Accidental because her situation is an
exception and not the rule as marriages
with young couples and no courtship
have a higher chance of breeding
domestic violence. And this violence is
powered by the misconceived notion
that somehow men are more equal than
women especially in Nigeria!
Yet the advice pours out and people eat
it up, not realizing that the person
dishing out the advice may never have
met that abusive husband that hugged
choked his wife when she was crying or
that woman that tithed every Sunday
but yet her Husband raped her every
Monday or that submissive wife that
was so submissive even when her
Husband left her for another woman
she still hung around.
So when they (the accidentals) give
advice they tend to give it from a
disney world perspective where every
man is a Prince and every woman is a
Princess. They just have one view…the
fairy-tale view…it worked for me so it
should work for everyone. So when this
people talk I barely listen.
But do you know who gives the best
relationship advice? People that have
been divorced…then got remarried and
eventually found the right one. They
talk from a multi-dimensional
standpoint. They know what causes
marriages to fail and the real reason
why it succeeds. And do you know the
people who give the really good
entrepreneurial advice? The same
type…the entrepreneurs who have
failed…started again and then
succeeded. Those are the people that
you should listen to for business advice
because they won’t give you BS advice
like, bepassionate and you will succeed!
Now I am not saying that you cannot
ever receive good advice from the
accidental’s or that anything a failure-
now-turned-success tells you is going
to work for you. Rather what I am
pushing you to understand is that there
is not a one size fit all advice for
business or relationships…you will need
to get advice from multiple sources to
help you make an ultimate decision that
fits your unique situation.
So before you young girls and boy go
jumping on Omotola’s advice and start
thinking that a man is more equal than
a woman, I urge you to listen to Hilary
Clinton, Maya Angelou, Chimamanda
Adichie and many other strong women
out there, listen to their stories, their
struggles and their triumphs and use
their collective experiences to help
make a wise decision.
That’s my article for today and
although it is ironically accidental in
nature, I hope the message in it will
help someone somewhere. Be awesome

On Monday March 3rd, Brymo won round one of his court battle with his former record label Chocolate City, who took an injunction against him, 'restraining him from recording, releasing or distributing any musical works pending the determination of the suit against him.'

A judge sitting at the Federal High Court, Ikoyi lifted the injunction against Brymo, saying he's free to continue doing music and releasing his materials while the case continues hearing in court.

AFP – Paralympian star Oscar Pistorius fired a gun in an upmarket restaurant, grazing his boxer friend’s foot, then asked another to take the blame, a South African court heard Wednesday.

Three days into the athlete’s trial for his lover’s premeditated killing, the state called his friend Kevin Lerena to testify about one of three other charges against Pistorius.

A bullet Pistorius allegedly fired in a Johannesburg eatery Tashas in January 2013 grazed the 21-year-old professional boxer’s foot, he testified before Judge Thokozile Masipa.

“A shot went off in the restaurant, then there was just complete silence,” said Lerena, the state’s fourth witness in Pistorius’s murder trial.

“Once the shot went off, I was shocked,” said Lerena, who also calls himself the “KO Kid”.

“I looked down, and just where my foot was stationary, there was a hole in the floor.”

“I had a little graze on my toe. I wasn’t hurt or injured,” he said, but added that “there was blood.”

The athlete apologised profusely, but then asked his friend Darren Fresco, the owner of the gun, to take the blame.

“Please, I don’t want any attention around me. Just say it was you,” he pleaded, according to Lerena.

Dressed in a black suit and a crimson tie, Lerena said he met Pistorius at a luxury car dealership.

The Daytona Group, which sells Aston Martins and McLarens, is run by another Pistorius friend and state witness, Justin Divaris.

British 400-metre sprinter Martyn Rooney, one of the four friends at the restaurant, was training with Pistorius at the time.

The gun allegedly went off after Fresco passed it under the table to Pistorius.

Scientists of two independent laboratories in Boston proved that injections of special long lasting AIDS drugs have protected monkeys from infection for weeks. This finding may be a link to a major breakthrough in stopping AIDS by preventing it.

The Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Ogun State, Oba Adegboyega Dosunmu, has said that former President Olusegun Obasanjo, knows his correct birth date but won’t disclose it to anybody.
Dosunmu who described Obasanjo as his “close friend” and “Balogun Owu,” noted that the former President decided to keep the date to himself but was in the habit of telling people he was “born in Ibogun a day before Ifo market day.”
The monarch said this in his brief remark this morning at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta, at the occasion marking the 77th birthday of the former President.
Although, Oba Dosunmu did not reveal the date, but advised that people should pay more attention that aspect of Obasanjo’s life that is “quite obvious” yet remain unknown to many.
He said the former President is humane and sympathetic, always ready to offer help to people in need.
In his speech, Obasanjo said the date being celebrated is “official” but promised to reveal the real date by himself in future.

A Constitutional lawyer, Dr. Tunji Abayomi, has asked a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja to stop the federal government from going ahead with the proposed national conference.
The plaintiff, in the suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/ 167/204 and dated March 3, 2014 argued that the President does not have the power to convoke or convene a national conference without a law backing it from the National Assembly.
Joined as defendants in the suit are the Attorney-General of the Federation, the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
In the suit, the plaintiff asked the court to determine whether a national conference can be convened by the President and/or government of Nigeria without a law made by the National Assembly enabling them to do so.
In the affidavit in support of the suit deposed to by Mr. Patrick Bisong, a litigation clerk in the office of the plaintiff, the plaintiff said that the federal government had planned to spend billions of public money to fund the conference despite the absence of any law enabling the President to convoke the conference and notwithstanding the limited power vested in the President to use money to execute law or authorise national idea.
He prayed the court to restrain the federal government from going ahead with the conference adding that if they are not restrained, billions of tax payers money will be spent unconstitutionally.
He further argued that the President is working with deliberate speed to convene the conference.
He said that to settle the rights of the parties to the action, urgent attention to the cause of action was necessary.
No date has been fixed for the hearing of the matter.
