on: 6-01-2016 02:37 PM
| Tony Anenih, a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT) chairman has written to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), explaining how he disbursed the N260 million paid into his bank account from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA). According to Anenih, he did not benefit from the money, but shared it following instructions, The Nation reports. Tony Anenih, former PDP BoT chairman Anenih said N63 million was given to a group coordinated by Alhaji Tanko Yakassai, a former special assistant to the former president Shehu Shagari (National Assembly Liaison), for the 2015 presidential election. The EFCC believes the cash came from the allegedly misappropriated $2.1 billion arms funds. Yakassai may be summoned for questioning over the “curious” payment as the anti-graft commission has started an investigation into the matter. A highly-placed source in the EFCC said: “Chief Tony Anenih has written the EFCC on how he disbursed N260 million from ONSA to various groups including a team being coordinated by Tanko Yakassai. He mentioned a few others whose identities we will not disclose until our investigation has reached an appreciable stage. “We will unveil the names of all the beneficiaries of the N260 million soon. But we are at a level that we need to invite Yakassai to shed more light on why his group was allocated N63 million arms funds.” The source added that the commission will also invite Anenih to make a statement on oath and for interrogation. | | |

on: 6-01-2016 02:24 PM
| Austin Tam-George, the commissioner for information and communication, has revealed that the Rivers state government will demand a refund of the N82million expended by former governor Amaechi on a three-hour dinner with Wole Soyinka if it confirms that the Nobel Laureate received part of the money in cash. “A government did not pay salaries, closed the courts but the administration had the temerity to expend N82million to fund a dinner for Soyinka.” Vanguard reports that Tam-George stated this while taking part in a radio programme on Wednesday, January 6, in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital. “I will seek the permission of the governor to formally write Professor Wole Soyinka, a known supporter of Amaechi, if he received part of the N82million spent on a 3-hour dinner hosted for him by the Amaechi administration. “If he agrees that he received such funds, then he will be compelled to refund same to the coffers of Rivers state. At present, we have presented these details to the police for investigation and prosecution. We shall also take up this matter as a financial crime against the people of Rivers state,” he said. | | | |
