Operatives of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission FCCPC on April 25, raided supermarkets in Port Harcourt, seizing underweight and re-bagged rice.

The commission disclosed this on its X handle. It wrote

‘’FCCPC's South-South Zonal Office conducted a routine enforcement operation in some supermarkets in the Woji area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, targeting underweight and re-bagged rice. Products that were suspected to be substandard were evacuated for further investigation.''

Mr. Kenneth, aged 60, d!ed in Nza Ozubulu, Anambra State, hours after being fl0gg£d.

Eyewitnesses claim Mr Kenneth was fl0gg£d because he allegedly sold a water tank in his family house and used the money to solve family issues.

Subsequently, his younger brother allegedly arrested him with a vigilante group who carried out the pun!t!ve measure.

Concerned Nigerians have called on the state governor and the police to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

They are also calling on the government to protect his bereaved wife and children who are being int!m!dated in their efforts to seek justice for Mr Kenneth.

A Nigerian woman has planned a surprise visit to her parents upon her homecoming from the United Kingdom after 14 years away.

All flight operations from the Murtala Muhammed Airport terminal 1 to the D wing of the airport, have been diverted by the Federal Airport Authority (FAAN) over a fire incident.

FAAN, in a statement, explained that the engineers at the airport have disconnected power from the entire E wing of the airport, in a bid to quench the inferno which started around 5:29 am on Thursday.

According to the statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, smoke which eventually turned into fire had erupted from the E54 bridge, a development PUNCH Online learnt caused tension at the airport.

FAAN together with the Airport Rescue and Firefighting Services team were said to have restored calm in the area after some airport staff and travellers took to their heels.

The statement reads, “Smoke was detected billowing from the E54 Bridge, leading electrical engineers to immediately cut off power to the entire E Wing.

“The Airport Rescue and Firefighting Services (ARFFS) team was quick to respond, arriving at the scene by 05:30 hrs. Initial suspicions point to sparks from an electrical unit as the cause, but a thorough investigation is ongoing to ascertain the cause of the fire.

“The incident, which had escalated into a fire, was brought under control by 06:41 hrs. Efforts to ventilate the smoke from the building are in progress. In the meantime, all flight operations in Terminal 1 of MMA have been diverted to the D Wing. More details will follow shortly.”

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has approved the declaration of Friday, April 26, 2024, as a half-working day for all public and civil servants in the state.

The declaration was made because of the forthcoming local government election in the state.

The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, OYSIEC, had earlier fixed the local government election for Saturday, April 27, 2024.

A circular signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Olanike Adeyemo, stated that government offices are to close by noon on Friday.

She added that personnel covering essential services are expected to remain at their duty posts.

The statement enjoined all public and civil servants to go out and exercise their civic rights on the day of the election.

The statement said: “Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has approved the declaration of Friday, April 26, 2024, as a half working day for all public and civil servants in the state.

“This is in connection with the local government election slated for Saturday, April 27, 2024.”

The Ebonyi State Government has carried out the demolition of shops and residential buildings in the Ogoja Road area of the Abakiliki metropolis to pave the way for the construction of a flyover to ease the perennial traffic at the ever-busy Vanco junction.

When DAILY POST visited the affected areas on Thursday afternoon, demolition work was still ongoing on both sides of the road.

The development, however, has evoked lamentations from affected traders and landlords.

Some of the affected traders in the area who spoke to DAILY POST stated that no notice was given to them before the demolition started.

Okechukwu Orji and Madam Alice Nworie, two of the affected traders, lamented that the sudden demolition of their shops without any valid notice to that effect, left them stranded, as they had no place to store their goods. They further averred that no compensation was given to them by the government.

When contacted, the Ebonyi State Commissioner for Works, Stanley Lebechi Mbam, told DAlLY POST that the demolition was not a witch hunt against anybody but an effort to beautify and decongest the city.

He stated that those affected have been asked to compile their names and submit the required papers to the state government for necessary action.

Owners of the Abuja Chinese Supermarket facing allegations of discriminatory practices responded to the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC's) summons on Wednesday, April 24.

The agency announced the development via its verified X (formerly Twitter) handle.

The FCCPC said the proprietors of Royal Choice were invited to answer questions regarding the allegations. Royal Choice, located at China General Chamber of Commerce, sells Chinese foods and beverages.

In a viral video on April 21, a resident narrated how he was told the supermarket was off-limits to Nigerians.

At the weekend, several people expressed dissatisfaction over the policy which reportedly only allows patronage from Chinese customers. Subsequently, FCCPC operatives inspected the facility.

FCCPC tweeted: "Update: Owners of the Abuja Chinese Supermarket facing allegations of discriminatory practices responded to our summons today to answer questions regarding the allegations. Prime Minister of Tanzania, Kassim Majaliwa, has announced the shut down of five hydroelectric stations in the country, in order to reduce excess electricity in the national grid.

According to Mr Majaliwa, the main plant, which is Mwalimu Nyerere Hydroelectric Station, alone has already generated enough electricity to power major cities, including the country’s main commercial hub, Dar es Salaam.

The BBC quoted an official of Tanesco, the power company run by the country as saying that, “We have turned off all these stations because the demand is low and the electricity production is too much, we have no allocation now.”

Nigerian-American singer and actor Rotimi says he pioneered Afrobeats in the United States.

The ‘Power’ star claimed to have popularized Afrobeats-style music in the US before the ‘Afrobeats to the World’ movement gained momentum through international collaboration.

Speaking in a recent episode of the 85 South Show Podcast, Rotimi recalled bringing his single ‘Love Riddim’ to the radio stations in 2018 and it was not well received because of its Afrobeats influences.

“I remember bringing ‘Love Riddim’ to the radio stations in 2018 and the program director was like ‘This is not good’. They didn’t even understand it and this was before Wiz (Wizkid) got the record with Drake,” he said.

He negotiated with the Sacked PA to get some of the lands at very cheap prices and somehow a bit wayo ways.

Fast forward, Chief Priest wanted to claim the lands he supposedly “bought” so he can start developing them.

Imo State Government said NO!! That those lands do not belong to Chief Priest and that the lands belong to Imo State Government.

Chief Priest went to see Oga Governor and even convinced him that not all the lands are for him and that he also collected other people’s monies and help them purchase.

So Hope asked him to go and bring receipts.

Chief Priest brought receipts of his money transfers to sacked PA’s account.

Hope even got upset more and accused Chief Priest of being one of the people who was aiding his former staff from stealing from him [Hope Uzodinma] and Imo state Government despite all the love he’s shown CP because of his support for his government. Hope apparently went on to accuse CP that all the support was to get close to the government so he can “milk” the state.

Chief Priest got furious at a point and tempers flare up.

Mr Governor asked CP to go to court if he believes he has paid for any land belonging to Imo State Government.

Mr Governor told CP that unless he provides proof that he bought those lands from Imo State Government, nobody will release those lands to him. He also told Chief Priest that, he must provide receipts of the money he paid into Imo State Government account as that is the only legal and acceptable means of acquiring Government properties.

Omo, all efforts to get the lands almost seem impossible now.

An eight-year-old girl has been left with swollen eyes and hands after she was assaulted by her aunt.

The vanguard of Yoruba Nation agitation have given the Federal Government till June 15, 2024 to invite them to a negotiation table to discuss the status of the ethnic group in Nigeria.

The ultimatum is contained in a letter signed by the trio of Professor Adebanji Akintoye, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, leader of the Yoruba National Defence and Otunba Ola Ademola, Vice-Chairman Yoruba Self-determination Movement, and addressed to the Presidency.

The letter read in part: “That the Nigerian Federal Government shall, within the next two months, but not later than June 15, 2024, inform us Yoruba Self-determination Movement that the Nigerian Federal Government have graciously agreed to our proposal for negotiation and that they have set up a negotiation team that will meet and dialogue with our Yoruba nation’s negotiation team”.

Also contained in the letter was a request to break away from Nigeria as a result of the alleged hostilities of herders who threaten the existence of the Yoruba by persistent kidnapping, killing and maiming.

The letter, dated April 17, 2024, reads, “We send this letter most respectfully to Your Excellency as a follow-up to our earlier letter, dated August 06, 2022, which we delivered to your predecessor, President Muhammadu Buhari, in his exalted position then as President of Nigeria.”

“Since 2015, the Fulani have been killing widely among the other peoples of Nigeria, including us Yoruba, destroying farms, villages and other assets, kidnapping men, women and children, extorting large amounts of money as ransom from friends and family of the kidnapped, and repeatedly asserting their intention to seize the homelands of all the indigenous peoples of Nigeria for the purpose of turning all into a Fulani homeland.”

“In the Middle Belt, horrendous blood-letting is going on, very many families have been forced into Internally Displaced People Camps, and many of their villages have been seized by the Fulani and renamed as Fulani villages.

“In our Yoruba homeland, our people are resisting somewhat better, but the Fulani attacks and killings and kidnappings are unrelenting and are coming

According to an unofficial estimate, the Fulani have killed as many as 29,000 Yoruba people in the years since 2015.

“All these actions by the Fulani are, to us Yoruba, a sufficient reason for our seeking to separate our Yoruba nation from Nigeria. Most of us Yoruba have no confidence in the ‘Restructuring’ that some of our most respected Yoruba leaders are advocating.

“Their spokespersons have said again and again unambiguously that their Fulani nation has prepared all its citizens to fight their current war of subjugation and land seizure for decades and even centuries to come.

“We Yoruba must not underestimate the Fulani; we must not condemn our people to Fulani killings, destruction, molesting, kidnapping and extortion of ransom for decades or centuries to come. Our Yoruba nation may not survive such prolonged battering.

“Mr. President, another crucial matter that we Yoruba must bring before Your Excellency is the horrific and seriously disturbing character of the attitude and the utterly disrespectful approach of one of the nations of Nigeria, namely the Fulani nation, to the Federal Government and the sanctity, integrity and dignity of the Nigeria state and the public order.

The Federal government has suspended Dana Airline operations over concerns surrounding the safety and financial viability of their operations. The suspension comes barely 24 hours after one of the airline’s craft with registration number 5N BKI skidded off the runway at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Tuesday morning, April 23.

The Ministry of Aviation in a letter to the Director-General of the NCAA, Capt. Chris Najomo through the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, said recent incidents involving Dana Airline had raised “serious safety concerns.”

In the letter with reference number PS/FMA/MA/S.121/Vol. 1/99 titled, “Immediate Suspension of Dana Airline Pending Safety and Financial Health Audit,” the Ministry said

“As the supervisor overseeing our nation’s aviation safety and regulatory compliance, it has come to the Honourable Minister’s attention that recent incidents involving DANA AIRLINE have raised serious concerns regarding both the safety and financial viability of their operations.

In light of these incidents and with the paramount priority being the safety and well-being of our citizens and travellers, the Honourable Minister has directed that you immediately initiate the suspension of Dana Airline’s fleet until a comprehensive audit can be conducted.

This audit should encompass all aspects of safety protocols, maintenance procedures, and financial health to ensure full compliance with our aviation regulations.

The recent incidents have underscored the urgency of this matter, and it is imperative that swift and decisive action be taken to safeguard the interests of all stakeholders involved. I trust in your expertise and diligence in carrying out this audit thoroughly and expeditiously. Please keep me informed of the progress and any significant findings throughout this process.
