The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office has closed down the administrative and kitchen complex of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Jesus Sanctuary in Masha, Surulere, citing alleged indiscriminate discharge of wastewater into the environment.

This development was made known via a post on the X handle of the Lagos Commissioner, Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, on Saturday, April 20.

It reads: "Following a public complaint received from concerned residents, the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office #lswmomedia in enforcing the provisions of the Environmental Management and Protection Law 2017, sealed off the administrative and kitchen complex of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Jesus Sanctuary, Masha, Surulere, Lagos for indiscriminate discharge of wastewater into the environment.

"Illegal discharge of wastewater into the environment endangers the lives of citizens as it leads to soil pollution and groundwater contamination; causing waterborne diseases such as cholera, dysentery, and diarrhoea.

"The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office encourages all Lagosians to desist from such acts and report all illegal activities leading to the pollution of the environment."


The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office is a parastatal of the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources aimed at protecting the environment from wastewater mismanagement in Lagos State.

Plateau State University, Bokkos, has announced a suspension of all academic activities in the institution for a period of 10 days.

The decision to close down the institution followed the attack and killing of a 200-level Computer Science student of the institution on Friday during a night attack around the university’s environment.

The Registrar of the institution, Yakubu Ayuba, in a statement on Saturday, said, “Following the sad incident that occurred in Plateau State University, Bokkos, and the surrounding communities on Friday, 19th April, 2024; and in view of the psychological effect of the unfortunate incident on students and staff of the university, the management has taken the painful decision to close the university for 10 days with effect from April 19, 2024.

“This decision is to allow the security situation to improve and to lessen the human risk on the university community. Accordingly, the ongoing first semester examinations are hereby suspended to resume on Thursday, 2nd May, 2024.

“Furthermore, Management has made available buses to convey students who may be stranded from the university to Barkin Ladi,” the registrar added.

Recall that gunmen on Thursday night, attacked two communities of Mangu and Bokkos where 15 people were reportedly killed in the areas.

A Nigerian mom has expressed disbelief as she displayed the high costs imposed by a school to enrol her child in a pre-kindergarten session.

Tanko Lami, a Facebook user, grumbled after getting a receipt showing pre-kindergarten expenditures.

The list revealed the cost of tuition, uniforms, health insurance, sports levies, and developmental fees, which added up to about a million naira.

The woman who shared the post bemoaned the excessive fee and expressed how unnecessary the charges are.

In her words:

“Development Levy 300k as in how? You will give my child teeth and brain cells because I don’t understand. 55k books for a pre-Kindergarten. This pikin no even reach the kindergarten finish sef, and books of 55k at that stage,” she wrote in a Facebook post on Friday, April 19.

“Me the mama, how many books I don read all my life? And that uniform. When my child is not a model… the same uniform that he will pour food on top? Abi ? Nna eeh,” she added.

The post has since generated a wave of humourous reactions from other social media users who vowed that they barely spent 10% of the total amount all through primary school.

Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps have raiding individuals across various locations for crossing the highway without using the pedestrian bridges

A video that was spotted by GISTMANIA, a lady was being bundled into the black maria by special taskforce personnel, after she was caught unaware crossing the busy expressway.

Recall that some arrests have been made earlier before now.

The state Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, had posted on his X handle sometime ago that 63 individuals were once arrested for this same offence.

His caption read, “63 persons were arrested yesterday by the officials of Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps #LAGESCOfficial(KAI) at different locations in the state for crossing the highway without using the pedestrian bridge, and street trading.

“Some of these locations are Oshodi Oke, Ile Epo, Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Ajah, etc.They have been charged to the court for prosecution in line with the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Protection Law 2017.”

Tunde Onakoya, a Nigerian chess expert, achieved a spectacular accomplishment on Saturday by breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest continuous chess marathon.


On his official X account, he eagerly shared the news with his fans, stating his ambition to break the record in 60 hours while emphasising the charity purpose of his endeavour: raising cash for the education of disadvantaged African children globally.

Tunde’s marathon broke the previous record of 56 hours and 9 minutes established by Norwegian players.

A female police officer who served as the aide-de-camp to former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has been apprehended by the Nigeria Police Force.

The ADC, accompanied by other police officers assigned to yahaya Bello, was apprehended and is currently held at the State Criminal Investigation Department in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The officers were taken into custody due to suspicions of assisting Bello in evading arrest by officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, who had gone to apprehend him at his residence in Abuja on Wednesday.

A 49-year-old Nigerian lady has welcomed quadruplets.


According to the Nigerian News Agency, the woman received the infants at Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) after a 15-year wait.



This mom, who already has a 15-year-old kid, had hoped to extend her family.

In 2023, she underwent In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) at JUTH’s IVF Centre and became pregnant on her first try.

On April 14th, at 33 weeks pregnant, the mother gave birth to quadruplets via Caesarean section. The mother and four baby are said to be in stable and good health.

This delivery represents a significant milestone for JUTH’s IVF Centre.

Professor Chinedu Ekwempu, a well-known infertility and endocrinology specialist and the center’s coordinator, expressed his delight in the success for both the centre and the hospital.

He said:



“This is the first time JUTH’s IVF centre is having a set of quadruplets, this is a great feat for the centre and the hospital. The mother and the babies are stable and are all in good condition,”

“The cost of the procedure here is highly subsidised, it is about half the price of the cost in private fertility hospitals. The centre is supported by the University of Jos, with assistance from TETFUND.”

Emeka Rollas, President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), has revealed that they have formed an organisation to examine the disaster that claimed the lives of Jnr Pope and four other crew members.

He also stated that when the organisation submits its report, Adanma Luke, the movie’s producer, may face legal action.

While appearing on Arise TV this morning, April 19. Rollas stated that the association’s attorneys are already preparing documentation since ‘the problem is actionable’.

Recall that Jnr Pope and four members of the cast and crew of the movie perished in a boat disaster in Anambra while enroute to the film site, Adanma has been criticised by certain Nigerians for allegedly neglecting to give them with life jackets before commuting via the boat.

The Minister of Sports, John Enoh, has claimed the new head coach for the Super Eagles, will be known within two weeks.

The role has remained vacant since the expiration of Jose Peseiro‘s contract at the end of February.

The technical committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has reportedly shortlisted three coaches for the top job.

Consultation is expected to continue in the next few weeks with the new coach expected to be appointed after that.

“What I can assure is the senior national team will have a new coach in the next one week or at most two weeks,” the minister told Channel Sports.

Enoh also said the NFF has taken their time to do a thorough job to make sure the Super Eagles qualify for the World Cup after a poor start.

The Super Eagles it would be recalled drew their first two World Cup qualifiers with Lesotho and Zimbabwe last December.

“The campaign for the next World Cup has started and we didn’t start well, it was a shaky one and therefore there’s a lot of mileage to cover,” Enoh added.

“We didn’t qualify for the last World Cup and can’t afford not to be at the next edition.

“The NFF know what Nigeria lost not being at the last World Cup and are doing everything not to repeat same mistake that will lead to the same disappointment.”
