1  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / "Those Attacking Fulani Are Setting Nigeria On A Very Dangerous Path" – Northern Elders Says on: 3-02-2021 08:35 AM

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of persons who are attacking Fulani and setting the country on a very dangerous path.

The forum made this call in a statement released on Tuesday by the NEF director of publicity and advocacy, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed.

The Northern Elders warned that the nation will be treading on a dangerous grounds if it continues the demonization of law-abiding Fulani in the southern part of the country, over particular types of crimes.

“The forum has been receiving reports of attacks on Fulani communities in the south, since the night of Sunday, January 31, and had taken the responsible step by drawing the attention of authorities to the dangers which these attacks represent for all Nigerians.

“NEF is deeply worried by reports of ejections and attacks on Fulani herders and communities in some states of the South.

“Law-abiding Fulani communities are advised to seek protection where it is available, and urged to resist the temptation to take the law into their own hands.

“The vast majority of Fulani are law-abiding and have rights to live lawfully wherever they can find means of subsistence.

“Like all Nigerians who can be found in every inch of Nigeria, the rights of the Fulani will not be abridged by criminals hiding behind ethnic interests to exterminate them.

“There are criminals in all ethnic groups, and the nation will be treading dangerous grounds if it continues to tolerate the demonization of entire groups over particular types of crimes.

“The forum demands the immediate arrest and prosecution of persons who are attacking Fulani and setting the country on a very dangerous path.

“The Fulani will not be ejected from any Nigerian community only on the basis of being Fulani or herding cattle within the limits of laws and regulations.

“States which seek to limit criminal activities are perfectly entitled to do so, but they must follow due process, and avoid exposing innocent citizens to danger at all cost,” the statement said.

The forum called on Northern Governors to be prepared to receive the Fulani communities if they are forcefully ejected from the south.

“If communities in parts of the country insist that the lawful Fulani is unwelcome and has no right to their security, then the Forum will advise them to relocate to the North,” the statement read.

“Northern governors should move urgently to prepare to receive Fulani communities being forcefully ejected.”

The forum appealed to Nigerians to “exercise restraint” and not to play into the hands of “people who desire to achieve dubious political goals by pitching citizens against each other”.

This is coming amidst calls for the Fulani herdsmen in some South Western and South Eastern states to vacate the area over claims that they have continuously masterminded crimes in the region.

Naijapals had earlier reported that Fulani herdsman was killed on Tuesday when a Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho, stormed Ogun State to flush out ‘criminal Fulani herdsmen‘ causing insecurity in the state.

3  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Jeff Bezos To Step Down As Amazon CEO And Will Be Succeeded By Andy Jassy on: 3-02-2021 12:11 AM

Jeff Bezos said Tuesday that he will step down as chief executive of Amazon, leaving the helm of the company he founded 27 years ago.

Bezos will transition to the role of executive chair in the third quarter of this year, which starts July 1, the company said. Andy Jassy, the chief executive of Amazon Web Services, will take over as CEO of Amazon.

In a memo to employees, Bezos said the transition will give him "the time and energy I need to focus on the Day 1 Fund, the Bezos Earth Fund, Blue Origin, The Washington Post, and my other passions."

The announcement set off alarm bells on Wall Street and throughout the business community, though the transition does not necessarily portend any significant change to Amazon’s business. Amazon reported a year of record growth on Tuesday, including a 38 percent increase in net sales from 2019, netting the company $21 billion in income, nearly double from the year before. Investors didn’t seem fazed by the news, either. Amazon's share price was up about 1.5 percent following the announcement.

Bezos steps away from Amazon at a time when its market value hovers around $1.7 trillion, making it one of the most valuable companies in the world.

It remains to be seen how active Bezos will be in Amazon’s business in his new role. Several major tech executives have stepped down as CEO and remained intimately involved in their companies’ business, including Larry Ellison at Oracle and Bill Gates at Microsoft. Bezos remains one of Amazon's biggest shareholders.

In Jassy, Bezos is tapping a longtime Amazon employee who joined in 1997 and built the company’s cloud services business, which started as a small addition to its e-commerce operations but has grown in recent years to account for roughly 60 percent of operating profit and has become one of the leaders of the cloud computing industry.

The move is a major turning point in one of the most successful entrepreneurial runs in American history. Bezos founded Amazon in 1994 as an online bookstore, survived the dot-com bubble in the early 2000s, and built the company into one of the largest employers in the U.S. with a network of facilities touching almost every part of the country. Bezos is one of the world's richest people, having recently been edged out of the top spot by Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

"The question I was asked most frequently at that time was, 'What’s the internet?,'" Bezos said in the employee memo about the early days of Amazon. "Blessedly, I haven’t had to explain that in a long while."

Amazon's success moved it quickly from a quirky internet upstart into one of the most watched — and scrutinized — companies in the country. Amazon’s size and business practices have raised antitrust questions from both U.S. and European Union regulators about how it has used its dominance to edge out competitors. Bezos was called before the House Judiciary Committee last year where he faced questions about the company's competitive practices, including accusations of pricing out competitors on its platform and using third-party seller data to inform the sale of its own products.

In addition to dedicating time to his space exploration company Blue Origin and to The Washington Post, which he owns, Bezos said he plans to focus on his philanthropic efforts including the Day 1 Fund and the Bezos Earth Fund, which are focused on helping homeless families and starting preschools in low-income communities and climate change, respectively.

“I’m super passionate about the impact I think these organizations can have,” he wrote in his note to employees.

In an interview with NBC News this week, outgoing Washington Post executive editor Marty Baron commended Bezos for his ownership of the paper.

“It's not just money, it's not financial capital,” Baron said. "It's intellectual capital. He’s someone who understands consumer business and consumer behavior. That is really important to us."

Bezos has faced some accusations that he has been slow to share his fortune. His former wife, MacKenzie Scott, the philanthropist and author who divorced Bezos in 2019, has given away more than $6 billion in the past year. As part of the divorce, Scott received a 4 percent stake in Amazon.

Bezos' move sparked reaction from many of his fellow tech chiefs, including Google CEO Sundar Pichai.

Moment man breaks up with his wife after her mother refused him access to his children because he didn't greet her.

In a video recorded online, the husband is seen telling his wife that it's over between them because her mother denied him access to their kids just because she said he didn't come into the house to greet her.

His wife tried to calm him down but he refused.

He asked his wife how many times she has called his own mother that hers should penalise him for not greeting her.

His wife told him they could settle it as friends but he refused.

He added that he's done with the marriage no matter what. He further informed the wife that she has called the cops on him before and taken him to court and asked if friends do that to each other.

He went on to tell his wife that they can still be in each other’s lives since they have 3 kids together but they don't necessarily have to live together.

He then mentioned to her that he plans to do a DNA test on one of their kids because he recalls her telling a nurse to his face that the child isn't his.

6  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Enrico Monfrini Explains How He Helped Nigeria Recover $2.4BN Of Abacha's Stolen Money on: 29-01-2021 09:35 AM

Details how billions of dollars stolen by late General Sani Abacha has been made public by a lawyer who helped recover the funds.

A lawyer from Switzerland has opened up on how he joined forces with Nigeria to recover billions of dollars stolen by Nigeria's greatest thief, Sani Abacha.

In an interview with the BBC, Enrico Monfrini said it all started when he received a phone call in September 1999 from former Nigeria president Olusegun Obasanjo asking if he could help recover the stolen funds.

Monfrini says a high ranking government official was then sent to Geneva by Obasanjo, to recruit him to get hold of the money looted by Abacha.

"He called me in the middle of the night, he asked me if I could come to his hotel, he had something of importance." Monfrini told BBC's Clare Spencer.

"I said: 'It's a bit late but OK.'"

"He asked me: 'Can you find the money and can you block the money? Can you arrange that this money be returned to Nigeria?'

"I said: 'Yes.' But in fact I didn't know much about the work at that time. And I had to learn very quickly, so I did."

After looting Nigeria's reserves, Abacha who ruled from 1993 until his death in 1998, died before spending his loot, prompting an international treasure hunt that has lasted for decades.

Monfrini says the Nigerian police then handed him the details of a few closed Swiss bank accounts, which appeared to be holding some of the money Abacha and his associates had diverted.

He said police investigations in November 1998 found that more than $1.5bn (£1.1bn) was moved by Abacha and his associates.

He said Abacha used sleek methods in diverting the funds.

He said one way was that Abacha would tell an adviser to make a request to him for money for a vague security issue, he will then sign off the request which the adviser would then take to the central bank, which would hand out the money in cash, that will then be taken to Abacha's house.

Some money was even taken in dollar notes "by the truckload", Mr Monfrini wrote.

Monfrini said another method included awarding state contracts to friends at inflated prices and then keeping the difference and demanding foreign companies pay huge amounts before being allowed to operate in the country.

"The documents showing the history of the accounts gave me a few links to other accounts," said Mr Monfrini.

Monfrey said he took some of his documents and information to the Swiss attorney general.

Monfrini says he put it to Swiss authorities  that the Abacha family and their associates formed a criminal organisation which allowed the Swiss government to take a different view towards the different bank accounts where money was stored.

The attorney general issued a general alert to all the banks in Switzerland demanding that they disclose the existence of any accounts opened under the Abachas' names and aliases.

"In 48 hours, 95% of the banks and other financial institutions declared what they had which seemed to belong to the family."

This led to other Banks all over the world releasing information about Abacha's stored funds according to Monfrini.

"Banks would deliver documents to the prosecutor in Geneva and I would do the job of the prosecutor because he didn't have time to do it,"  Monfrini told the BBC.

"We would find out on each account exactly where the money came from and/or where the money went to.

"Showing the ins and outs on these bank accounts gave me further information regarding other payments received from other countries and sent to other countries.

"So it was like a snowball. It started with a few accounts, and then a large amount of accounts, which in turn created a snowball effect indicating a huge international operation.

"Bank accounts and the documents that go with them talk a lot.

"We had so much proof of different money being sent here and there, Bahamas, Nassau, Cayman Islands - you name it."

"Nobody seems to understand how much work it entails. I have to pay so many people, so many accountants, so many other lawyers in different countries."

According to Monfrini, he said he agreed with the Nigerian government to get a commission of 4% on the money sent back to Nigeria and according to him his percentage was "very cheap".

He added that locating the money was one thing but sending it back to Nigeria became very hard because the Abacha family were fighting tooth and nail.

"The Abachas were fighting like dogs. They were appealing about everything we did. This delayed the process for a very long time."

Swiss politicians then started deliberating if it was necessary to send the money back as it would be stolen again.

Monfrini wrote in 2008 that $508m found in the Abacha family's many Swiss bank accounts was sent from Switzerland to Nigeria between 2005 and 2007.

By 2018, the amount Switzerland had returned to Nigeria had reached more than $1bn.

He then revealed that some countries were slow and frustrated him when it came to returning the stolen funds.

In June 2014, Liechtenstein did eventually send Nigeria $277m.

"Liechtenstein, for instance, was a catastrophe. It was a nightmare."

Six years later, in May 2020, $308m held in accounts based in the Channel Island of Jersey was also returned to Nigeria.

Monfrini says he is still expecting $30m he says is sitting in the UK to be returned, along with $144m in France and a further $18m in Jersey.

That should be it, "but you never know", he says.

In total, he says his work secured the retyrn of just more than $2.4bn.

"At the beginning people said Abacha stole at least $4-$5bn. I don't believe it was the case. I believe we more or less took the most, took a very large chunk, of what they had."

Monfrini says he is happy now that the Abacha family are no longer as wealthy as they used to be and he is satisfied with his work.

"They are not swimming in money like they used to do in the past."

"When I speak to my very many children about this case, I tell them I found money and I blocked the money, I persuaded the authorities to go after these people and get the money back to the country for the good of the Nigerian people.

"We did the job."
7  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Imo To Rename High Court Complex After Late Nigeria’s Ambassador To US,Justice Sylvester Ngwuta on: 29-01-2021 09:24 AM

The Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, said on Thursday the state government would immortalise the late Nigerian ambassador to the U.S, Sylvanus Nsofor, by renaming the Imo High Court complex after him.

The late Mr Nsofor, who died in December in the U.S at the age of 85, was a retired justice of the Supreme Court.

He hailed from Oguta in Imo State.

Mr Uzodinma’s announcement of the government’s plan to immortalise Mr Nsofor was made at a valedictory session held at the Court of Appeal, Owerri, in his honour.

The governor said Mr Nsofor was a man who stood for justice and fairness when he served as a judge of the Court of Appeal.

“My government will immortalise Nsofor because he was a man with a high level of integrity and he made us proud as a state.

“His legacy should be emulated by every leader. He showed good example as a lawyer and also gave remarkable judgments as a judge,” Governor Uzodinma said.

“Even in death, we are proud of him because he represented us well,” he added.

A judge of the Court of Appeal, Owerri, Ayobode Sodipe, said the late Mr Nsofor would be remembered for his contributions to the “bench”.

“I was able to read most of his judgments as an Appeal Court judge, I saw wisdom in all his decisions and his legacies will forever remain.

“He was a great man who was respected by the international community, on behalf of my colleagues here, we say a last farewell to an honourable gentleman,” Justice Sodipe said.

A senior lawyer, Mike Ahamba , said Mr Nsofor had a good track record as a judge and represented Nigeria well as an ambassador.

“We are very proud of him, even in death, he will be highly respected because he served both Imo state and the Federal Government diligently,” he said.

Blessing Iweajunwa, an Owerri-based lawyer, said Mr Nsofor’s track record was a big source of motivation for lawyers.

“He practises as a lawyer before he was elevated as a judge, he had an excellent career and we are very proud of him,” she added.

11  Forum / The Buzz Central / "Women Are Delightful But "Too Much" Women Can Destroy You" - Reno Omokri Advises Men on: 26-01-2021 08:32 AM

Popular author, Reno Omokri has issued an advice to men as he urged them to stick to one woman and avoid dating several women all in the name of proving they are men.

According to Reno Omokri, too much women can destroy men as he advised them to stop sampling women like a DJ sampling records.

He stressed that God created men to achieve exploits not to achieve sexploits.

He wrote;

Quote
DEAR MEN,

SWEETS ARE DELICIOUS, BUT TOO MUCH CAN KILL. WOMEN ARE DELIGHTFUL, BUT TOO MUCH WOMEN CAN DESTROY YOU. STOP SAMPLING WOMEN LIKE A DJ SAMPLES RECORDS. YOU ARE A MAN. NOT A DOG. GOD CREATED YOU TO ACHIEVE EXPLOITS NOT TO ACHIEVE SEXPLOITS.. #FREELEAHSHARIBU #RENOSNUGGETS

I believe that what Mr Omokri stated is very correct, that is because, men that engage themselves with multiple women, often lose focus in what they are doing and what that plan to achieve in the nearest future. As a man you should learn how to focus on getting yourself on another level instead of focusing your strength in getting multiple women.

A Nigerian man has been spotted in a viral video confronting a police officer who he claims planted marijuana in his car.

Lucky Onwurah who disclosed that the incident occurred around Oji river in Enugu state, identified the police officer as Alex Okolo and also gave the number plate of the car the police officers drove as Abuja RSH578TH.

He wrote;

Some bad elements of NPF(Mopol) on illegal duty on passat salon wagon with plate no Abuja RSH578TH tried to implant Indian hemp(igbo) in our car at Oji river after a supposedly stop and search but thank God we caught him red handed with his partner. His name is Srg. Alex okolo

Disappointed we caught him, next is pointing gun at us and threatening to shoot us including my mother, we refused to back down, we also caught his partner still trying to implant another pack of Igbo in our car just to prove the first was not a fluke.

Only God knows the number of innocent victims who have suffered this thuggery and anarchy.

Advice: shine your eyes whenever police wants to search ur vehicle no matter the distraction as their first trick is to distract u and implant the marijuana in your luggage .

Stay in a position where you can see his hand clearly during search, no matter how he tries to obstruct your view.

Always Insist on one officer searching your car at a time not two or more(very important).

Make a video and send to someone immediately if they start threatening your life, these people can do the unthinkable.
