Gunmen suspected to be herders have killed a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Mangu local government of Plateau state, Mr. John Mai Kyau and his son.
The politician was killed in his residence at Bureh village of Halle Ward on Wednesday, May 10, 2023.
His wife and another son, who were shot at the stomach and leg escaped with gun wounds and are receiving medical attention at Allah Na Nakowa hospital in Mangu Local council.
A community leader, Dan Mangu, who is an uncle of the victim, confirmed the incident to the Nation on Friday.
The attack occurred around 8:00pm in Bureh village on Wednesday," he said.
“Over 60 herders invaded Mangu Hàlle ward in Bureh village, around 8:00pm and headed to the resident of the victim, an influential APC chieftain,”
He said the gunmen forcefully gained entrance into the house and opened fire on them in the parlour, killing him and his son.
It was gathered that security has been deployed to the community to restore calm.
Hon. John and his son were buried on Thursday afternoon amid tension in the village.

A suit demanding an order to discontinue the swearing-in of president-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu, come May 29 was instituted at the Federal High Court, Abuja.
The suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/578/2023, filed by five residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) urged the court to stop the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Olukayode Ariwoola, any other judicial officer and/or any other authority or person from swearing in any candidate in the February 25 presidential election as President or Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
It furthered that it should remain until it is judicially determined with finality or in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution that such candidate has fulfilled the requirement of Section 134(2) (b) of the Constitution.
The applicants; Anyaegbunam Okoye, David Adzer, Jeffery Ucheh, Osang Paul and Chibuike Nwachukwu however identified themselves as registered voters of the FCT.

“A declaration that no state of the country is at the same time the FCT for any purpose whatsoever, including, in particular, under section 134 (2) (b) of the Constitution.
“A declaration that no candidate in the February 25 presidential election in the country may validly be declared elected President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria without that candidate obtaining at least 25% of the votes cast in the FCT, Abuja.
“A declaration that no candidate in the February 25 presidential election may validly be sworn in as President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, without such candidate having obtained 25% of the votes case in FCT, Abuja.
“A declaration that following the February 25 presidential election and until a successor is determined in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution and sworn in, the term of office of his Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, GCON, as President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria subsists and endures in accordance with the provisions of section 135 (1) (a) of the Constitution,” the suit read in part.
The suit which cited the Attorney-General of the Federation as first respondent and the CJN as second respondent in the matter also demanded “an order setting aside or suspending any declaration and/or issuance of a Certificate of a Return to any candidate in the February 25 presidential election in the country as having been elected, save and except it is judicially determined with finality that such candidate fulfilled the conditions stated in section 134(2) (b) of the Constitution.”
A Nurse and victim of rape by CMD in Kwara state have disclosed how she trapped the Doctor who sedated her and then took advantage of her.
Commissioner of Police, Mr Paul Odama, while parading the suspected CMD Dr Ayodele Joseph at the press conference in Ilorin on Friday for allegedly molesting his client told journalists that the Nurse who sensed a mishap had unknown to Dr Ayodele set his Camera phone in a vantage position in the theatre room which clearly recorded the surgery while she was sedated.

“She woke up from sleep after the surgery to find herself fully naked, and when viewing the recorded video, she discovered that the said Dr Ayodele Joseph had unlawful segxwal intercourse with her while under sedation.
“Investigation led to the recovery of the video recording of the segxwal activity of the said doctor on the victim which was also corroborated by the medical examinations conducted on the victim.
Odama added that “This same suspect had recently been arraigned in court by the Police for the offences of criminal Conspiracy, negligent conduct, causing hurt by Act Endangering life or Personal safety of others and culpable homicide arising from his unprofessional conduct resulting in the death of one Nneka Akanike ‘F’ in his hospital under questionable circumstances which led to him being charged to court.
“He would be charged to court again for rape after the conclusion of investigation,” he said

Two persons have allegedly been shot by an officer of the Amotekun corps in Ekiti State. One of the victims was said to have died immediately while the other is battling for his life in an undisclosed hospital. It was also learnt that two officers of the Amotekun corps were seriously attacked in retaliation by traders.
This is just as the state police command said it has commenced discreet investigation into the incident It was said that trouble ensued when the Amotekun officers trying to relocate traders from Atikankan area of Ado Ekiti to a new
location provided by government at Agric Olope, but some of the traders who were not ready to obey the new policy reportedly attacked the Amotekun officers and in the process it was alleged that one of the officers opened fire at them.
At the moment, the area has been taken over by armed policemen to avert further crisis. The police said that, “four suspects have been arrested so far in connection with the incident. Meanwhile, normalcy has been restored to the area.” The Commissioner Of Police in the state, CP Ogundare Dare in a press release by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abutu Sunday said that the “command received a distress call that there was a clash between operatives of the Ekiti State Security Network Agency (Amotekun) and a group of irate youths in Atikankan area of Ado Ekiti.
“The Command immediately deployed operatives to the scene to maintain peace and forestall further damage. “Upon reaching the scene, it was discovered that two persons were seriously injured and rushed to the hospital. “The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Ogundare Dare, has ordered a discreet investigation into the incident to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book”.
The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Saheed Wasiu, popularly known as K-Federal.
According to a statement signed by Yemisi Opalola, the Command’s spokesperson, Wasiu was earlier wanted by the police for murder and cult related activities.
The statement also revealed that the suspect is a member of the Rasheed Hammed, a.k.a. Oko-Ilu-led Eiye Confraternity and was arrested around Alusekere area, Ede, by detectives from the Special Anti-Cultism unit.
She said, “On 07/05/2023 at about 1400hrs, upon tip-off received that, one Saheed Wasiu ‘m’ popularly known as K-Federal, one of the deadly and notorious members of Rasheed Oko-Ilu led gangster was around Alusekere area, Ede, Osun State, Police detective from Special Anti-cultism unit swung into action and arrested the suspect.
“During the interrogation, he confessed to be a member of Eiye confraternity led by one Rasheed Hammed, a.k.a Oko-Ilu who has been arrested and remanded at correctional custody some time ago.”
Opalola disclosed that the suspect confessed to taking an active part in the killing of twenty persons in Ede town.
“Suspect confessed to having participated in the killing of almost twenty (20) innocent citizens of Ede town and dropped their corpses at Osun River, Sagba area, Ede. Among the victims they have killed are: late Wale, Jamiu, Ganiyu, Azeez and Eyimba and others,” she added.
She revealed that the suspect will be charged to court after the completion of investigation.
The police in Kano state has arrested a 45-year-old housewife, Zainab Rab’u, and five others over the abduction of a six-year-old boy, Almustapha Bashir, and demanded N20 million ransom from his family.
Parading the suspects before newsmen on Thursday, May 11, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Gumel, said the housewife connived, with, Abdulrashid Sa’idu 27, Hassan Abdullahi 24, and Ahmed Saleh 25 years old, all of Shekarau quarters, Kano to perpetrate the crime. The police boss said after the abduction, the housewife and her accomplice called the family of their victim and demanded the sum of N5, 150, 000:00 as ransom which was promptly paid.
Gumel said the victim was released unhurt and that police investigation led to the arrest of the suspects. He added that the suspects would be charged to court for discreet prosecution.
A senior lawyer of Nnamdi Kanu, Mike Ozekhome, has expressed fears that the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), might die in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) if he is not released.
Ozekhome expressed his concerns while speaking to judges at the Supreme court during the hearing of Kanu's case on Thursday, May 11.
The Senior lawyer told the apex court that Kanu is very sick and requires a surgical operation, hence should be released immediately. The lawyer asked the court to rule in favor of the transfer of Kanu from DSS custody to Kuje correctional center so that he can begin treatment.
“My Lords, Nnamdi Kanu is sick, he has been approved for surgery but they have refused to release him for treatment. We are pleading for him to be transferred from DSS custody to Kuje correctional centre so that he can begin treatment like others. He’s getting really sick, I’m scared he may die in the custody of DSS. Dead bodies are not prosecuted.”he told the court
Reacting to Ozekhome’s plea, the apex court said God will keep the IPOB leader alive and that he will not die in detention. The court said even if it proceeds to hear the appeal, there is no space within its calendar to write and deliver the verdict within the 90-day deadline.
“Nnamdi Kanu will not die in detention. God will keep him alive and his blood won’t be in your hands.'' the court said
The case before the court was then adjourned till September 14.
Recall that Kanu was arrested in Kenya and flown to Nigeria on June 19, 2021. Subsequently, the federal government filed terrorism charges against him. Eight of the fifteen count charges were struck out by Justice Binta Nyako on April 8, 2022. The remaining seven counts were later quashed by the court of appeal on October 13, 2022.
On October 28, 2022, the court of appeal granted a stay of execution on its verdict which discharged Kanu of terrorism charges filed against him by the federal government. Kanu and his lawyers are at the Supreme Court to Appeal the verdict of the Court of Appeal.
The police in Lagos state have begun an investigation after the naked body of a yet-to-be-identified man was found inside a car in Isheri, Olowora Road, Ojodu Berger in Lagos on Thursday, May 11.
Residents of the area woke up to see the deceased inside the Black Toyota car. The deceased was found completely naked with his shirt and trouser lying on the floor. His head was on the driver’s seat while his leg stretched across the passenger’s seat. Some residents said they have no idea who he was, while others claimed he was a regular face in the area.
The police at the Isheri Divisional Headquarters was alerted and officers came in and evacuated the corpse to a morgue of a general hospital in the area.
The state police command is yet to comment on this development.
A Nigerian lady has expressed her disappointment after being taken to a N1.5m apartment in Ogudu area of Lagos state which was in a sorry state.
The lady who was shocked with the state of the apartment which a little boy she called her baby said was a “mess,” further revealed that she was taken to worse apartments.
She shared a video of herself in another apartment in the same Ogudu with a tiny kitchen and room which she claimed are not up to one square meter.

Billionaire, Elon Musk, says he has hired a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Twitter, the social media platform he acquired last October.
Musk, who made the announcement in a Twitter post on Thursday evening, said the new CEO will be starting in six weeks while his role will transition to being the Executive Chair, an oversight role.
