Commonwealth Light Welterweight champion and WBC Super Light Welterweight number one contender, Nigeria’s Segun Ajose will take on Lucas Martin Matthysse of Argentina, for the interim WBC Light Welterweight title slated for the United States of America on September 8 this year.

Matthysse, who has a record of 31 victories, 29 coming via knockouts, and two defeats, was the WBO Latino Light Welterweight champion from 2006-2007. He holds the WBO Intercontinental Light Welterweight title in 2011 and the WBA Intercontinental Light Welterweight title.

This was revealed to Complete Sports by Ajose who flew into the country on Monday from USA.

“At the moment, I will be fighting Lucas Matthysse for the WBC Interim world title on September 8 in the US,” he began.

“My fighting against Matthysse is a little bit of politics. They realized that it is easy for me to beat Garcia than Matthyss. Everybody knows he is tougher than Garcia. They want a guy who will beat me, but I just have to surprise them by beating him.”

“Matthysse is a very good boxer, very tough. He is a confident character. However, I think I can beat him because I am better than him. I am as tough as he is, if not better. He can punch very well and I too can punch. He is also fast but I am faster.

“He is skillful and I am more skillful than him. So, I think I am more talented than him and I think my speed will see me through. It’s not going to be an easy fight, but it’s a hell of a job and somebody has to do it and I am capable of doing it,” Ajose said.
