A statement by the INEC Head of Public Affairs in the state, Mrs Celina Beckley, however, refused to disclose the identity of the party.
The commission noted that the exercise was illegal and, therefore, warned the political party involved to desist from the act, saying it had informed security operatives to deal with anyone or group of people caught in the act.
INEC also advised electorate not to trade their voter cards but to keep them safely and be ready to present them at the polling unit, so that they could vote in the forthcoming governorship election.
“Our attention has been drawn to an ongoing house-to-house compilation of particulars of voters being carried out by a political party in Ondo State.
“INEC hereby states that this exercise is illegal and contravenes the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended). Political parties and their members are warned forthwith to desist from this activity.
“INEC will not condone any act that contravenes the nation’s electoral law and the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“The security agencies are on high alert and anyone caught carrying out this exercise will be dealt with accordingly,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, the police, on Tuesday, asked leadership of political parties in the state to warn their members against violent tendencies.
A statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Aremu Adeniran, noted with concern that the command had been inundated with allegations of attacks on members by other parties.
