Zimbabwe – A Bulawayo woman is said to have dumped her husband only a week after the couple’s wedding to co-habit with another man.



The husband, Mr Antony Munetsi Matambanadzo, is now seeking a divorce to formalise the separation.

According to a general notice issued by the High Court of Bulawayo late last month, Mr Matambanadzo married Miss Hazel Shata in 2011, only for her to leave the matrimonial home a week later. In the notice, Mr Matambanadzo says the marriage has irretrievably broken down without the prospect of reconciliation.

The court gave Miss Shata 20 days from the day of the publication of the notice to respond. He has instituted the divorce proceedings “on the grounds of irretrievable breakdown of marriage and there are no reasonable prospects of the parties living together as husband and wife, particularly in that the couple only stayed together for only one week from the day they got married”.

Part of the notice reads: “The parties have not exercised conjugal rights in excess of over a year, which plaintiff finds to be incompatible with the constitution of a normal marriage relationship.

“Defendant doesn’t treat plaintiff with any respect at all and is co-habiting with another man. As a result, the plaintiff has lost the love and affection he once had for the defendant.”
