A woman in Delta State has been arrested after she allegedly sold her neighbour’s baby for the sum of N250,000.
The woman, Eunice (surname withheld) sold the baby to a woman in Lagos who is said to have been married for 18 years but had no children.
The woman kidnapped the child on January 14, 2015, when her neighbour asked her to look after the baby while she ran to the market. Eunice gladly agreed to help. After mother’s leaving she took the child, carried to her buyer and a deal was sealed.
Eunice immediately disappeared after she sold the baby. But police, however, acted very efficiently. With the help of a neighbour who sighted the offendress when she was selling the baby, the police officers traced and arreseted her in Ore Community of Ondo State.
It should be also added that now Eunice is helping the police to track the buyer of the baby while being held at the state CID in Asaba.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Police Command (DSP), Celestina Kalu, has confirmed the arrest and added that investigation is still going on.
Another tragedy has recently taken place in Kaduna. A newborn baby boy was found abandoned beside a gutter on race course road.
