The ancient city of Ile-Ife in Osun State, Nigeria was literally locked down on Monday, February 18th when Ooni Of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi celebrated the Aje Festival 2019.

The event which turned out to be an all-white procession of thousands of indigenes and tourists from the imposing palace to the centre of town had Lagos- based businesswoman, Princess Toyin Kolade as Chief Host.

The annual festival began at noon with the arrival of Ife chief priests who paid obeisance to the king, prayed for the town and sprinkled salt and other substances used to celebrate the Aje diety around the royal grounds.







Later, the Ooni accompanied by his lovely wife, Queen Naomi stepped out to the royal courtyard and led the teeming crowd that had gathered for prayers, rounding off the session at the first market in the town with the releasing of doves.

Speaking after the ceremony, Ooni Ogunwusi explained that Aje is the deity in charge of wealth and economic prosperity, adding that its influence on the world economy was immense which makes the celebration of the festival very significant.

In the same vein, the Iyaloja General of Nigeria, Chief (Mrs) Folashade Tinubu-Ojo explained that Aje is one of the most powerful deities in Yorubaland and she was happy that the Ooni has given the event its pride of place.

The Chief Host and Coordinator of the Annual Aje Festival, Princess Toyin Kolade expressed delight at the impressive turnout at this year's edition, noting that people around the world were beginning to appreciate the cultural and tourism revolution embarked upon by the Ooni of Ife as an instrument for economic advancement.
The business woman popularly called Iyalaje of Apapa Kingdom, described Aje as a deity that blesses the business and professions of all and sundry, promising that the 2020 edition will be bigger and better.

Guests at the event were The Elerinmo of Erimo-Ijesha, Oba Michael Ajayi, Mr. Dele Odule, Mr. Saheed Balogun, Mr. Kayode Olaiya.
