In a bombshell announcement, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has revealed damning allegations against a significant number of former governors, with accusations ranging from misappropriation to embezzlement, totaling a staggering N2.2 trillion over a span of 25 years.

This jaw-dropping figure, according to EFCC sources, does not even include properties seized worldwide or those currently under investigation, which collectively amount to billions of Naira.

To put this into perspective, the looted sum of N2.2 trillion mirrors the combined budgets of Lagos State and the South-East states for 2024, exceeding even the budgets of the North-Central and North-East states by several billion Naira.

The EFCC's investigation, probing, and prosecution efforts have targeted 58 ex-governors from various regions of Nigeria, out of the 170 governors who have served since the restoration of civilian government in 1999.

Among the prominent figures named in the ongoing or concluded investigations are late Abubakar Audu with N10.966 billion allegedly misappropriated, TA Orji and sons accused of N551 billion, Yahaya Bello linked to N80.2 billion, and Ayo Fayose embroiled in allegations totaling N6.9 billion, among others.

These revelations have sent shockwaves through the political landscape, prompting calls for accountability and transparency in governance. As the EFCC continues its relentless pursuit of justice, the nation awaits further developments in this high-profile probe.

The 58 ex-governors who are currently or have previously faced investigations by EFCC, with alleged amounts in question, consist of:

late Abubakar Audu (N10.966 bn),

TA Orji and sons (N551 bn)

Yahaya Bello (N80.2 bn)

Chimaroke Nnamani (N5. 3 bn)

Sullivan Chime (N450 million)

Kayode Fayemi (N4bn)

Ayo Fayose (N6.9 bn)

Abdullahi Adamu (N15bn)

Danjuma Goje (N5bn)

Aliyu Wamakko (N15 bn)

Sule Lamido (N1.35 bn)

Joshua Dariye (N1. 16 bn)

Timipre Sylva (N19.2 bn)

Saminu Turaki (N36bn)

The 58 ex-governors + others who are yet to be named, all formal military head of states, all formal military governors should be made to return the money they stole and all their known properties seized. Death penalty by firing squad should be pass on them because they are worst than Anini and Oyenusi who faced the firing squad for armed robbery.

And, where are those people now? They have settled EFCC and their cases closed, just as Bello's own is gone, yet EFCC is 'fighting' corruption. Those people including APC governors intentionally excluded by EFCC stole not embezzled government money, they are pen-robbers who are supposed to be languishing in jail by now, but EFCC has aided and abetted them
