Spurred by the massive turnout recorded during January’s uprising against the removal of fuel subsidy, the United Action for Democracy (UAD) yesterday, called for series of mass action on April 23 and 24 to demand that the Federal Government take concrete steps to fight corruption and not increase the pump price of petrol.
National Convener of UAD, Jaye Gaskia, told journalists in Abuja that the group would call for an indefinite mass action on May 1, if its demands are not met.
According to him, his group has realised that the Federal Government is committed to further hiking the price of petrol while nothing is being done to prosecute officials indicted for corruption.
The group is also demanding the immediate resignation or sack of the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala; Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Allison- Madueke and Minister of Information Labaran Maku, for what it described as their culpability by acts of omission or commission in the fuel subsidy fraud, the anti-people hike in the price of petrol and the conscious promotion of lies to cover the truth.
The group’s other demands include the immediate release and full publication of the reports of the power sector, fuel subsidy, petroleum sector and pension probes; immediate and full implementation of the reports for the probes; prosecution and punishment of those implicated and indicted with exemplary punishment of guilty companies.
