One person was feared killed and several others injured yesterday, as hoodlums clashed in Owode-Orile area and Mile 12 over collection of money.
The violence, which lasted for over an hour, caused a traffic snarl from Owode to Ketu as vehicles made U-turns along the Ikorodu Expressway to avoid being caught up in the violence.
It was gathered that the deceased identified as Are, reportedly lost his life after he was stabbed severally on the head and chest. Sources said he bled to death.
The fight, it was learnt, broke out after some members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), and youth in the area fought over collection of money at a particular bus stop.
The hoodlums were said to have used broken bottles and sticks to vandalise vehicles parked along the expressway while the fight raged.
However, the quick response of policemen who moved to the scene soon after the matter was reported saved the situation from further degenerating.
A witness identified as Kunle said: “I live in this area and was driving home from church when some hoodlums wielding broken bottles and sticks began fighting. It was later that I heard they were fighting over collection of money”.
A trader in the area said: ”One man known as Aare was killed while another person had his intestine ripped out in front of my shop. I quickly took cover and hid until the police came.”
A police source at the Mile 12 police station said calm has returned to the area.
