I am not sure my brother ......so tell me ..,how it is been done in Igbo land now??

I do not know what part of Igboland you are from, but it used to be the way you stated a long, long time ago, things have changed and men are wiser. What would you do if something like that happens to you? Would you take all or give something to your sisters?

True, but the woman should get something, I am sure that if something like that happens to you, you will give your sisters a little something and not take all.

that is what i mean, they are my sister i don't have to be wicked to them.

u too harsh for this matter, i am not saying that d women should not get any thing from their family inheritance, they should if there is enough to share, but not equally.

Now, I got your point, to me, it does not matter how they share the wealth as long as they give the women something

Yes of course! female are equally as male children to the late man....denying them their inheritance implies the late man was neva their father and i don't believe if the man himself was still alive he would have preferred the female children have their children.....the barbaric culture of 'Male children' over the females should be buried,we are all equal

Nigerians can never get a unified voice on this matter, because any angle you take the matter to, there will be a different tradition as to how it should be done.
every one should ask thier traditional leaders how its being done in thier community. therefore the poster should be send back to the village of the family in question to get the ultimate answer as ours may not be applicable to theirs.

we are talking about tradition here in d part of igbo land i come fr women dont get anything bcos dey will soon get married her family will pay her dowry.  if she marry her husband property will automatically will be hers too, if she did not marry she will not be thrown out she will be remain in the house. Or  they will conclude on wot do. Depend on the family.

You are right, but from what I was told, in my area, men give women some shares of the wealth. It is not 50/50, but they give them something which is better than nothing. Yes, the law is still in the books, but most people do not follow that old law. For example if the dead man had lands and a house, the woman is given a portion of the land.

In case where d man has not much property is even worse...........u are talking 4rm wat u were told but I have witnessed and experienced it.........the last case I experienced was 4rm my own family........the man (deceased)  has two children.., a male and a female......he left two plots of land but his elder brother sold 1 long ago when the children were still very young..........and the land was far 4rm where they lived.........but the wife fought vehemently 2 make sure dat d oda plot was not sold...........she was a devoted christian and even refused to remarry but remain with her two children until they grow............still the kindred did not give up.......... when the matter arose again not long ago b4 I left home.......den I volunteered my self to see d bottom of it..........datz hw I got 2 knw more about d useless tradition not only in my village cuz I made research abt it........but at last the remaining land was sold by the boy and his mother.........then he gave small part of the moni to her sister who has married..........anoda small part 2 the mother who fought 4 d land until he grew up.............then some part to the kindred in oda 2 maintain peace..................and find his way wit larger amount.................But dat does not mean it is done dat way according 2 Igbo tradition my brother.................like wise killing of twins was a tradition in some places in the olden dayz but somebody fought 4 it and stopped it............I rest my case

Our  Nigerian law should and must be changed. Female children should get share of the family inheritance.
In this 21st century, there are so many things that men do that women can do better.

In the absence of a ‘Will’ in any polygamist’ home it becomes the community’s burden to separate the battle among family members, as to who takes what. In this particular case, whereas the first wife has only two female children, the second wife has five children all boys. The senior wife insisted that the three houses the husband left behind must be shared so that her children can inherit from their father’s wealth even after they leave. But the younger wife argued that the houses will not be shared whenever the girls marries the houses would be left for her boys and the elders of the family were in support of the younger wife’s view and the case was charged to court.

How best do you think these properties should be share?

No insult pls.
as an igboman the 2nd wife is right....but not good the husband could have done little to her first wife notice about the will even oral speaking alone....as family all they need is understanding....if the man at house agree and those girls have not gotten husband then they will enjoy there fathers wealth but long as they get married finish   they don't have any thing left over at fathers compound....what am saying is give the ladies/woman because maybe they senior the boys abi?Huh? given 20% of the wealth while they are still not married after they get married nothing more.....
