Against the instructions of the  Inspector-General of the Nigerian Police, The Imo state police command has once again flooded the Imo metropolis and highways with roadblocks/paying centers manned by the men of the command. A commuter from Portharcourt to Owerri will visibly notice these checkpoints immediately after the boundary of Imo state and River State. The usual business of stop-and-pay has taken over from the motorized patrol as instructed by the IGP. These checkblocks at intervals of one kilometer, include those of the Anti-terrorist squad, the Federal highway Patrol and the Ohaji/Egbema divisional police command.
Some commuters and commercial Bus drivers, who complained bitterly about the return of these checkpoints told this journalist that the Imo state police command is cashing in on the spate of kidnappings and insecurity witnessed recently in Imo state which many believed are stage-managed just to make way for the return of roadblocks and Egunje toll gates. The state police public relations officer is yet to confirm these allegations

Last saturday 19/05/2012, There was a robbery cum kidnap attack at Ubomiri along Orlu road that lasted for several hours. One police officer and a driver escorting the kidnapped victim was killed. Ubomiri is a town situated between Akwakuma Owerri housing the state Police command HQs, and the Mbaitoli LGA Nwaorieubi where another Divisional police command is located. The  big suprise was that non of these commands inteverned as these dare-devil men had a field day robbing, killing and kidnapping innocent victims.
