STUDENTS of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, on Monday, disrupted the first semester examinations of the institution, billed to start on the day.

It was gathered that students in the centres were angry that some of them were not allowed into the examination halls, over alleged non-payment of fees.

Seven of the students were said to have been arrested for causing the confusion, while the authorities of the institution had shifted the examinations by one day.

The students were said to have protested, following the directive of the management of the institution that debtor students must pay school fees in full before they could be allowed to sit for the first semester examinations.

The exam centres in Ifaki, Oye, Ikere and the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, recorded the same reactions when the university authorities commenced the screening of the students for the examinations.

Some of the students, who spoke with the Nigerian Tribune, said trouble started at the examination centres when a large number of the students, who could not produce exams permit, stormed the classes and started disrupting the conduct of the examinations by throwing stones and sachets of water.

But when the matter was brought to the attention of the vice chancellor of the university, Professor Oladipo Aina, he was said to have directed that all the students be allowed to write the examinations

The public relations officer (PRO) of the institution, Mr Olubunmi Ajibade, in a statement made available to newsmen on the development, said “the management of Ekiti State University has graciously approved that the first semester examination for regular students which commenced Monday, June 18, 2012 be shifted by one day.”
