Suspected gunmen have used explosives to attack Dala Divisional Police Station in Goron Dutse, Kano.
Sources revealed that they started to hear gunshots and explosions at about 7.10pm on Tuesday night, keeping frightened residents in their homes for fear of being caught in the crossfire.
Some residents of the area, who pleaded anonymity, revealed that they saw a number of dead bodies of policemen and some civilians around Dala Police Station, while other sources said the police station was not torched but the premise was hit by an explosion while the officers on duty were able to repeal the attack.
Another resident, who spoke with THISDAY on phone, said: “We heard multiple explosions followed by sporadic gunshots, when we are preparing for Isha’i prayer in a nearby mosque”.
It was learnt that the road leading to Goron Dutse from Tal’udu was deserted, while Mandawari police road was also closed by soldiers and policemen who were seeing asking people to leave the area.
A combined team of the Joint Military Task Force (JTF) has been deployed to the area.
Spokesman of the Police in the state, Deputy Superintendent of police (DSP) Rilwan Mohammed confirmed the attacked, but decline further details, stating that “we are yet to get the official details of the situation and we only heard of an attack”.
Incidentally, Dala Police Station (Goron Dutse) had been previously attacked by unknown gunmen.
