The National Universities Commission has on Wednesday suspended the operational licenses of seven private universities for allegedly not meeting up to its set targets on school facilities and academic programmes as established by the NUC.
The suspended universities are Lead City, Caritas, Joseph Ayo Babalola, Tansian, Madonna, Achievers and Obong.
Confirming this development to news men, Mallam Ibrahim Yakassai, The Director of Press and Public Relations of NUC said in a telephone conversation on Wednesday night that the suspension of the licenses of the affected schools was imperative in order to continually work on the current standard of Nigerian Universities.
A top NUC official who had pleaded anonymity had affirmed that the decision of the NUC became unavoidably important considering that most of the private Universities have failed to lived up to the guidelines stipulated by the NUC in the running of Universities in Nigeria.
“The operators of the universities affected know their offences because so many times, we have informed them about their failings but they did not take necessary steps to address their shortcomings. Anyway, It’s just a suspension and it will be lifted as soon as they do the correct things,” the sourced said.

okay, we are watching but why did they have to hide their shortcomings? They should tell Nigerians whatever the school did instead of hiding them from us. why the secrecy, NUC want to collect bribe? Yakassai family again? Nigeria is gone totally, so this illiterate is in-charge of your Universities? Na wa ooo

Imagine oooo, why did NUC issue them licences b4 when they know that somethings are not correct. I can see now that all sectors in this country needs to be revamped

caritas and madona are better and well equiped than 60% of the government owned universities in Nigeria. they had better tell Nigerians why this universities operating licenses were suspended and i wonder why there is no single university from the north that fail short the so called guidelines.

No wahala, maybe na some of the students of these universities be dey try to open Boko haram bottom. abi no faculty of islamic studies in any of the closed universities ?

Private universities are in almost all the countries in the world and this is so because their coming into existence is supposed to improve the quality of education and give more options to people for higher education learning so i see no reason why our country Nigeria should not have private universities but in our case, private universities came into existence because of the reason i just gave above and most importantly because of the fact that public universities which are being ran by goverment is failing or has failed (lack of infrastructure, not enough lecture halls, hostel accomodation is much below standard for human beings to live in because most remind me of prison cells, exploitation by lecturers and above all they have fallen in standard of producing quality graduates whom are worthy enough to hold certificates and can't even explain to you the basic of what they did in university in relation to their degree, a lot of bribery to change results and the list goes on.... just like they have failed in the governance of our country Nigeria and i can state that NUC collects money from various private universities as settlement to make their pockets richer and the ones who don't accept to part ways with such stupendous amount of money become a target for the NUC .

no no no, the language these guys used to do away with those universities is the usuall language been used in nigeria,how can they say!! THE AFFECTED KNOWS THEIR SHORT COMING AND WILL BE UPLIFTED WHEN THEY COMPLY WITH NUC, MEANING THAT NUC IS OR HAS BEING ASKING FOR BRIBE IF NOT THESE IS NOT THE MODE TO ADDRESS THE PUBLIC,,, WE RE IN TROUBLE IN NIGERIA , IF NOT private universities in nigeria, our public unis re facing terrible abandonment from the government
