JULY 7, 2012 BY ALAKANSE KEHINDE 9 COMMENTS
A truck driver, Sunday Ephraim, has been remanded in prison custody by an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court for reckless driving, which resulted in the death of one Senam Esien.

The 29-year-old accused person was arraigned before Magistrate T. Akanni on one count of reckless driving.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Samson Ekikere, said Ephraim, on June 12, 2012, had driven an Iveco truck with registration number Osun XA 871 APM in a dangerous manner.

He said the accused had hit one Okon Etim, who was riding a motorcycle with the victim on the rear seat. The deceased had his left leg fractured in the accident. Ekikere told the court that Esien had died in a hospital on June 16 while receiving treatment as a result of the injury he sustained from the accident.

He said the offence contradicted Section 28, Cap R10 Vol. 6 Road Traffic Laws of Lagos, 2003.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

The case was adjourned till Aug 6 for further hearing. Similarly, an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court has remanded Seun Ogunremi (20) and Rahaman Idris (31), for conspiracy, armed robbery and carrying of weapons.

The two accused and others at large, on June 11, 2012, at about 8 pm, allegedly conspired to rob one Folake Bello of her Toyota Camry with the registration number, DB 294 FST, worth N1m, a Nokia phone.

The accused pleaded not guilty as their lawyer told the court that the victim only implicated his clients on suspicion.

The case was adjourned till Aug. 31, 2012 for further hearing.
