THE Directorate   of Petrol Resources  (DPR)  has  been commended for its effort in  regulating setting up of petrol stations and that its effort has prevented the emergence of illegal petrol  stations.

A major petroleum product marketer,  Alhaji  Yusuf Banuso, made the commendation during a chat with Nigerian Tribune.

He said there was nothing against setting up of many petrol stations.

Alhaji  Banuso  commended the DPR for preventing the emergence of illegal petrol stations.

“There is no town that we don’t have many  petrol stations. Petrol stations are many everywhere. We thank God that the Directorate of Petrol Resources  (DPR)  is working on it to regulate setting  up  petrol stations,” he said.

On the ongoing probe of the fuel subsidy regime by the House of representatives and the allegation of bribery levelled against the former chairman of the ad hoc committee, Honourable Farouk Lawan, Alhaji Banuso said he did not comment on such issues, because  it are government affairs and government should resolve the issue, just as he denied ever commenting on it.

“It is a lie. I never commented  on it. Nothing  concerns me about anybody  collecting   bribe or not. I didn’t comment on it.

On how marketers  managed to make profit  despite  the hike in the price of petroleum products, Alhaji Banuso explained that inasmuch they could not sell  above the fixed price, they ensured they bought product which they could make a little profit from.

“It is not that the increment  is okay by us.  But this is the only business we have been doing. It is the only business people  know us  with .

“We don’t have the resources to import petrol motor spirit (PMS) products on our own. Whatever price the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) sells  the petroleum products to us that is the price   we  will  buy.  We don’t have an alternative. We are like babies  being backed by her mothers. Wherever pleases the mother she can carry the baby to,” he added.
