Land dispute claims 1 life, scores injured in Ebonyi

ABAKALIKI—OHAOZARA, the local government area of Ebonyi State Deputy Governor, Chief Dave Umahi, was weekend thrown into confusion as one unidentified person was reportedly killed while several others sustained various degrees of injuries over a land dispute involving the villages of Umunaga Enuagu and Urobo in Uburu area of the state.
Houses and other valuables worth millions of Naira were also reportedly destroyed as a result of the mayhem.
A source in the area claimed that “valuables destroyed during the clash included cars, motorcycles, houses, domestic animals, household equipment and other valuable items. What started like a small quarrel broke into fight which resulted in the killing of one person with many others got various degree of injuries, houses were burnt and other property destructed.”
Confirming the incident, State Commissioner for Police, Maman Sule, however said though no life was lost, but only one person was injured.
He said a car and motorcycle were burnt and some houses were razed down following the crisis in the area.
When Vanguard visited the area, normalcy had returned as armed policemen were seen patrolling the two villages to keep trouble makers in checks.
