The hoodlums shot their victim in the leg when he was trying to escape and was consequently rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment in Asaba, the state capital.
It was gathered that the hoodlums swooped on the head of service at the popular Inter-Bau round about and dragged him into their waiting vehicle.
Ofili did not resist his abductors but while they were shooting sporadically into the air, the gunshots hiet him and some passers-by, it was further gathered.
While the unfolding drama was going on, attention of the police patrol team was drawn to the scene, and without wasting time the police went in to foil the kidnap attempt.
According to the state police command public relations officer, Mr. Charles Muka, “our men acted swiftly as they gave the kidnappers a hot chase.”
He said “When the police were closing in on the hoodlums, they shot their victim and pushed him out of their car before heading to an unknown destination. And for now, no arrest has been made”.
The police spokesman also said five suspected kidnappers were however arrested by the police over the weekend in Agbor when they were attempting to collect N150,000 ransom from family members of their victims.
