Residents desert Okene as soldiers begin house-to-house search

Residents of Okene town in Kogi State have deserted their home as soldiers and policemen commenced a house to house search for arms and suspects believed to be behind last Monday’s attack on worshipers inside the Deeper Life Bible Church in Eika in Okehi local government area.
It was gathered some of the residents on seeing the action of the police started fleeing into the neighbouring towns in Edo, Ondo and Ekiti states while some moved to Lokoja and inside bush.

Commercial activities in the town were grounded as banks and other business premises in the town could not open for business while the entire town was deserted.

According to a source, the search was also as a result of two soldiers killed by gunmen at the local government secretariat and took away their guns.

Police Public Relations officer for the state Mr. Simon Ile, who confirmed the incident, said policemen were sent to Okene for a mop up exercise.

He said the action will be sustained until all the culprits behind the “dastardly killings” were apprehended and the arms stolen from the dead soldiers recovered.
