In a strategic move to bolster regional development in Nigeria’s Middle Belt, President Bola Tinubu has appointed Princess Atika Ajana as the Executive Director (Projects) of the newly constituted North Central Development Commission (NCDC).
Princess Ajana, a seasoned development advocate and public policy expert, is no stranger to leadership and public service.
Her appointment, widely welcomed across political and civic circles in the North Central region, signals a renewed commitment to infrastructural transformation and inclusive growth in the zone.
Prior to her new role, Princess Ajana served as a board member of the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA), where she was instrumental in promoting investment-friendly policies and economic clusters.
She has also held key advisory roles across various governmental and non-governmental institutions, with a focus on women empowerment, rural infrastructure, and regional integration.
The NCDC, modeled after similar interventionist agencies like the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), is tasked with addressing developmental challenges unique to the North Central states, which include Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau, and the Federal Capital Territory.
Princess Ajana is expected to spearhead large-scale project implementation, monitor capital interventions, and drive stakeholder engagement across the region.
Among those who congratulated her is Dr. Dominic Joshua, agribusiness investor and founder of Cultivate Africa, who described the appointment as “timely and strategic.”
“Princess Ajana brings a track record of developmental focus and results,” he said. “Her appointment will enhance sustainable infrastructure and economic development across the North Central”.
Other civic stakeholders echoed similar sentiments, describing her emergence as a “step in the right direction,” citing her inclusive leadership style and deep roots in the North Central geopolitical zone.
As expectations rise for the NCDC to deliver on its mandate, Princess Ajana’s appointment is seen as a strong foundation for what could become a transformative era for North Central Nigeria.
