Is there really anything like “sex addiction”?
Just like a friend of mine asked me a few days ago, “Doc is there really anything like sex addiction”. My answer to him was based on a personal experience, and that I am about to share with you.
Some years back, I guess that was during my psychiatry posting. I was in the consulting room with my chief (the consultant neurologist I was under) when this man and his wife walked in. The man complained of his wife being a promiscuous woman, that the woman have gone as far as sleeping with his personal driver and even his own brother, the man went further to say that the word “No” doesn’t exist in the wife’s dictionary. “I am a man with a high libido I know but for the fear of incessant sex demands my wife will keep placing on me I always fear going back home”, the man said. He concluded his complaint by saying I am tired of what I am seeing and hearing, some friends of mine said that this is a psychiatry case and that’s why we are here.
After the man’s complain we had to run some tests on the woman and also ask her some questions so we can ascertain what really the problem is. During the course of her examination we noticed she was holding some information back, so my chief asked the man to excuse us for a while. As the man left the consulting room, out of a reason I can’t really remember I also had to leave the consulting room. Minutes later we all saw my chief running out of the consulting room with his shirt a bit ruffled and guess what the woman made a forceful sex pass to my chief who out of personal self control and professional ethics fled.
Now you answer for yourself; is she not a sex addict (nymphomaniac) knowing his husband is just a few meters away she still went ahead to seek that which her body craves for.
What happened next and how we handled her case I think should be gist for next time
But just know she was handled and she now leaves a normal life and happily with the husband.
And also know that sex addiction is real
