The Landlady is not crazy rather she sued the dead because he was the one that rented the house and again he have people that will stand in his stead and pay the debt.

This subject clearly shows the level of intellectual capacity of the people of people that leave comments on here. The Land lady only have a contractual arrangement with the decease therefore making him the only person he can sue. The widow thinks she attracting sympathy by saying the husband has been dead for 8 years if that his correct then that means the landlady has no contractual with the present occupants making them illegal occupant which means the landlady can eject them with immediate effect.

Going by what people has been saying on here if the landlady has made a mistake of suing the widow she would have won the case with ease you can't sue someone for breach of contract if you don't have a contract with them in the first place, its similar to morons that take their wife or husband to court to dissolve their marriage when they were not legally married in the first place.

The landlady did the right thing, as sad as it may sound the widow should have moved out when she know the can no longer afford the the apartment.

It may appear to be funny but it is legitimate and overall it is not funny. Someone is bearing the brunt. There is a limit to human endurance….the landlady has been very kind.
Now I am asking you…if you were the landlord what would you have done? Would you continue to allow the Widow to continue the free ride?  What about the rent arrears?

If the rental unit was still in the name of the deceased…yes he or she could be sued…. the estate of the deceased will now be responsible…and the case may even end up in a probate court…..This should be no surprise…It is just like people or dependants  fighting over a Will…. no difference….but I can understand why some might say it is crazy…..…..ask the tax department they do it a lot....

Therefore even if one is dead his debt is not dead…. It is all about money that’s what capitalism is all about..

Thanks bro! u understand the rule of life....

Thank you very much sir….
Some comments are posted based on headlines and emotions…without reading the whole article. How many would allow this Widow to continue to stay in their apartment without paying? None..
The only person that could be sued is the tenant dead or alive…it is left to the courts to make the right decisions and get matters resolved…. The landlady is not a welfare dept.…. some are not thinking of how she is going to recover
N450, 000 if ever she’ll recover anything. She’s got her own financial obligations as well and cannot continue to support someone indefinitely…
The relatives of the deceased and the Widow should shoulder the responsibilities. I can honestly say the purpose of the suit is not so much about the arrears but to get rid of the occupants on her property that are not paying their rent.
The law does not say if you are a Widow of a tenant you are entitled to a free rent…..No one here is offering any type of solutions other thab why a dead man is being sued.
It is always good to be insured no matter how little the policy is so that one’s dependants can always get some financial assistance after death…

In my own opinion the landlady has shown more than compassion.
