Some students suspected to be cult members carried out their threat by killing another student of the Lagos State University on Sunday, barely four days after a rising musician, Damilola Olaniyan, was shot dead.

According to reliable sources, Olaniyan, who was suspected to be a member of Bucaneers, was killed by members of a rival cult, Black Axe.

PUNCH Metro learnt that days after Olaniyan, who goes by the pseudonym Damino Damoche, was killed in front of the school gate, members of his gang retaliated at Abeokuta Street, Ojo, by killing a student, Kabiru Atoyebi.

It was learnt Atoyebi, a final year student of the institution was believed to be a member of Black Axe.

Police authorities said Atoyebi was in his apartment when he was killed.

When contacted on the telephone, the spokesperson for the state police command, Ngozi Braide, confirmed the incident.

She said, "I cannot say if Kabiru was a cult member but I can confirm to you that he was killed in his apartment on Sunday night by suspected cult members. Investigations are ongoing and we will get to the root of the matter and arrest the culprits."

Braide said Atoyebi's parents had come to collect his remains and would be buried according to Islamic rites.

Meanwhile, no fewer than 70 people had been arrested over the killing of Olaniyan. Olaniyan, who was an upcoming Hip Hop artiste, was buried on Saturday.

Our correspondent learnt that the 70 suspects were arrested during a raid at Ishahi area of the state.

According to a reliable police source, the suspects are members of the cult that killed Olaniyan.

The source said, "On Sunday night, based on intelligence, we learnt that some cult members were having a party at an hotel to celebrate the death of Damoche. We immediately swung into action and arrested all of them.

"The suspects were transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja, where they are being interrogated."

The source said the police had recovered Olaniyan's mobile phone and that detectives were making headway in their investigations.

The PPRO confirmed that suspects were arrested but did not state the actual number.

She said, "There was a raid on Sunday night and suspects were arrested. We are screening them now and those that are not found culpable will be released while the rest will help with investigations."

It was also learnt that students of LASU have continued to express fear that innocent ones among them might either get killed by cult members on revenge mission or get arrested by policemen.

A student of the institution, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, said tension was high in the school.

When contacted on the telephone, the spokesperson for the institution, Mr. Sola Fosudo, denied knowledge of Kabiru's murder.

Fosudo told our correspondent that as long as the killing did not occur on the school's premises, there was no way he would be aware of it.

"Please do not call me whenever such a thing occurs outside the school's premises," he said.
