Ex-Militants Surrender Weapons To JTF In Delta

The inter-agency task force has been constituted by the Federal Government to carry out the verification and reconciliation of disarmament  encodes as well as document the residual ex-militants who actually surrendered weapons to JTF and other security agencies in the all the states in the Niger Delta

The inter-agency Task Force Coordinator who led the team, Air Vice Marshall James Gbum during his opening address stated that this exercise is aimed at enhancing the security of lives and properties in the region.

The mop up exercise of weapons and ammunition which was held in Warri, Delta State saw the gathering of all the armed forces fully represented with the inter agency task force spending almost 3 weeks in the state just to accomplish this task.

The coordinator of the inter agency task force, Air Vice Marshall, James Gbum during the opening address, pointed out that some of the ex-militants who in their various petitions to the Federal Government have claimed to have submitted their arms to the JTF and other security agencies and were excluded from the amnesty programme would be included in amnesty programme if qualified after the task force has carried out its task.

James Gbum also expressed disgust at the craftiness of some of these ex-militants who they discovered surrendered primitive and archaic weapons such as Dane guns, cutlasses and catapults.

He stated that these groups of persons do not qualify for the programme.

Speaking on behalf of the state governor, the special adviser to the governor on security thanked the team for the effort put in so far and for a job well done.

The total number of weapons recovered from the security agencies is 14,586 ranging from AK 47,FN rifle,Mk4(locally made) G3 machine gun,G3 air rifle, SMG, Pistols, Pump action, Machine guns, RPG, GPMG, BMG, Double barrelled guns, single barrelled guns,Mack3s,Short gun, Dane guns, Bazooka gun, Smoke gun…

These weapons would be back-loaded to 82 division of the Nigerian Army for destruction.
