For Mrs. Ayorinde Olayinka, the task of feeding four babies and catering for their other needs could be overwhelming.
Speaking with Sunday Sun at her 13, Felix Ofily Street, Iyana Ipaja, Lagos residence, Mrs. Olayinka said bearing the burden of caring for her three boys and a girl – Quyum, Qureeb, Quwan and Qureebat – who clocked four years recently, could stretch an otherwise happy mother to the end of her tether, particularly when she is cash-strapped.
“God has always been good to me and my children. In fact, it has not been easy at all since 2009 when I gave birth to them. All I ever wanted was two children, and here I am with five! May God be praised for these wonderful blessing.
“Giving birth to my children was not easy because I went through cesarean operation and taking care of them has been very difficult despite that my mother has always been there for us”, she said.
She told Sunday Sun that her major headache has been lack of funds. “Money is what I need because my children eat a lot. Apart from the girl, the boys eat heavily. Also, it is difficult purchasing pampers and Bosom feeding them. But the greatest challenge is their school fees, which I cannot afford. Though they are still in kindergarten, we pay N8000 per child and one wonders what will happen when they get to primary school, with the situation in the country. I want my children to be educated”, she stated.
Hinting of her resolve to stop child bearing, Mrs. Olayinka whose husband is a panel beater, recalled that she once contemplated giving her children to a Motherless Babies Home due to crippling hardship. She said: “I do not plan to have more children because these are enough for me. My children are blessings from God; they came naturally without me taking any fertility pills, but I cannot cater for all of their needs. I stay with my mother because my husband does not contribute to the children’s upbringing.
“At first, I thought of giving them up to a motherless babies home due to lack of money. How do I cope? The responsibilities are too much without the support of my husband”, the young mother said.
She was, however, quick to advise other mothers in similar situations to resist the temptation to throw away their babies.
“I would also want to advise other mothers who had such blessings to take care of their children and not throw them away, because they are God’s blessing”, she stated.
A former dressmaker, Mrs. Olayinka has appealed to Nigerians and organizations to come to her rescue.
“I was a tailor until a doctor advised me not to sew again due the caesarian operation I went through. So presently, I have no gainful job and no source of income. Now that we have a big family and my husband is a panel beater.
“I appeal to the government and public-spirited individuals to help me and my babies. I want my children to be educated and healthy.http://sunnewsonline.com/new/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/multipla-birth-612x300.jpg
