The newly-crowned German champions completed a 7-0 routing of the Spanish giants to set up up a first ever all German Uefa Champions League final
Perhaps the biggest shock of the week was when the team sheet for the Barcelona team was released and Lionel Messi was in the starting line-up. The Argentine attacker looked an unfit player during the first leg semi-final against the Bavarians 8 days ago. With the home side needing to score 5 unreplied goals to get to the finals most would have expected a line-up that would include Messi but it wasn't to be as the Argentina captain was left on the bench for the 90mins duration of the tie.
A hardworking but comfortable performance from Juup Heynckes' men saw them defeat the home side 3-0 on the night to reach their third UCL final in 4 years. The first half couldn't have been any easier for the Germans as the closest Barcelona came to scoring was a long range effort from Pedro, who saw his shot comfortably tipped over by Neuer. The away side were the better side on the night and should have scored in the first half if not for some sloopy play from Arjen Robben.
The Dutch International would later go on to atone fro his mistakes in the 49th minute when he connected with a long ball from David Alaba before curling a shot into the net to give his team the lead. Bayern were comfortable all night and doubled their lead in 72nd minute courtesy of an own-goal from Gerard Pique. The
Spanish defender put through his own net after trying to prevent a Ribery cross from reaching Mandzukic who was waiting behind him.
The home fans were silenced in the 76th minute when Thomas Muller jumped highest to score a header from close range courtesy of some good play on the left by Ribery. Barcelona have now been eliminated in the semis of the Uefa Champions league in tow successive seasons.
