Former Governor of Bayelsa State, Timipre Sylva, yesterday regained freedom from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
The embattled former governor, who was arrested by operatives of the antigraft body in his mansion at Maitama, Abuja, on Wednesday, was granted an administrative bail about 5p.m.
EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, said Sylva would be required to report at the commission whenever the need arose. Meanwhile, the agency is keeping mum over when Sylva is likely to be arraigned in court over corruption charges slammed against him by the commission.
Uwujaren said: “I can’t tell you when we are going to arraign him. As soon as we conclude arrangement of when to arraign him, we will inform the public. “All I can say right now is that Sylva has been granted an administrative bail and he’s no longer in our custody.” The anti-graft body is also not categorical about the issue of the suspect’s international passport.
However, a reliable source at the commission told our correspondent that the agency had taken possession of Sylva’s travelling documents.
