An ex-Niger Delta militant, Anietie Etim and four others who allegedly specialise in buying arms in Bakassi Peninsula for supply to the Boko Haram insurgents in the north have been arrested by the Police.

Other accomplices in the gun running business include Lawal Bako, Abdullahi Isa, Umaru Haruna and Alhaji Ahmadu all from Taraba State. They carefully constructed a special tank at the booth of an Audi salon car where they conceal arms for shipment to the north.

++++++++

Also, the Police foiled the sale of a 13 year old boy, Richard Bassey for N1.5 million by a man simply referred to as Gentle Moses, 20, of Ididep, Ini Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State was arrested at Bogobiri, Calabar while negotiating to sell the boy.

According to the Cross River State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kola Shodipo, luck ran out on them when they were arrested following a tip off. Recovered from them while negotiating to buy some AK 47 rifles was N300,000 cash, an Audi 80 [EA 80 ABC, Abuja] and a Mercedes Benz 190 [PU 854 AAA, Lagos].

Shodipo while parading the suspects who had confessed to the crime, described Anietie Etim as the link man at Ikang community in Bakassi Local Government Area who sources for the arms for sale to buyers. He said Etim owned the Mercedes 190 car and has no visible means of livelihood except crime.

He commended the gallantry of his men and warned criminals to stay clear of Cross River State as the police under his leadership was not prepared to allow the state become a fertile ground for robbery operations and other crimes. He assumed duties in the state a few months ago.

But THISDAY gathered that four other members of the gun running syndicate escaped arrest and were being trailed by the police. The Audi car had an extra tank constructed for fuel so that once they take off from Bakassi they won’t stop to re-fuel till they get to their destination......
