You are absolutely right, and i'm sick of hearing that americanized word. Infact i think ppl say that when they know you were brought up here and don't even have to do with anything in particular for them to feel that way. They just use that against everything u do or say whether it has to do with it or not.

Why is that Nigerians raised in America looked down upon by Nigerians who were actually raised in Nigeria??

This question is actually about me. I was raised here in America (I have been here since I was 5yrs old) been back to Nigeria twice, understand Ibo but don't speak it well. But alot of Nigerians do not consider me Nigerian which real bothers me.

Now why would Nigerians not consider me Nigerian?

i think i got a worse treatment than u..... Undecided

Actually a man who wants to mistreat his woman probably was never brought up by strong women and has never really appreciated the women in his life. My mother moulded me to be who I am today, I see her in alot of women I meet. There are alot of dudes like me who appreciate women and respect them, I just feel you havent met the right kinda Naija dudes who's mothers instilled some good values into them.

I guess the reason Nigerians don't consider you a Nigerian is because you are probably soooooooo Americanized. Most Nigerian men like women they can control and treat wrongly so, when they come across a woman like you who wouldn't take water from them then they tend to regard you as non Nigerian. Also there are certain things the Nigerian culture does not permit which is typically normal in the US.

That's true..I noticed that. But you would think that a man wants a woman of his equal and not someone who he can just control. My mother raised me to be able to stand up for myself (and not to depend on a man); however this is very different from how my mom is to my dad. I still follow some Nigerian traditions (culture) but being raised in America, I couldn't help but incorporate American culture within. But I don't believe it makes me any less Nigerian. And when I see Nigerian woman and woman doing something I don't like, I don't say anything unless it affects me.

I totally agree with you. It mostly depends on your upbringing. Like u I was raised by my mother who I watched cry so many nights for being heart broken by the one man she loves (My father). She instilled in me a lot of discipline and made me promise her never to lie to a woman or take advantage of one but guess what some women tends to take the simplicity as weakness and therefore incurs the the other side of me.
