A gang of armed robbers, Thursday, defied the extra security measures said to be adopted by the police, as it raided a new generation bank in Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, using dynamite to blast the building.

The same bank was raided sometime in May 2008 by an eight-man armed robbery gang, which carted away huge amount of money from the strong room and escaped into the town having failed to hijack a bullion on the Asaba-Benin highway.

Yesterday's robbery at the bank located in the heart of the town caused panic as bank customers and passers-by took to their heels. Traders and buyers in a nearby market were forced to disperse in the twinkle of an eye as gun shots rent the air, accompanied with deafening dynamite blasts.

Vanguard gathered that the robbers stormed the bank at noon and caused stir, as they allegedly used dynamite to blast the building and continued shooting sporadically.

It could not be ascertained at press time whether money was stolen from the vault.

State police command's spokesman, Mr. Lucky Uyabeme, said: "We are trailing the robbers. We are on their trail. We have even trailed them to Edo State. No arrest has been made and no casualty."

Robbers use dynamite

I we supposed to throw a party for them?

Are they the first gang to use explosives during operations?
