Shocking! Boy Beaten to Death By Officials of Enugu Waste Management AgencY

A 17-year-old, Secondary School boy, Ede Chiebere was allegedly murdered gruesomely by enforcement teacm of Enugu State Waste Management Authority, ESWMA. The murder of the boy has led to serious tension in Enugu metropolis. The brutal enforcement team of the Enugu state agency, which had been terrorising residents of the metropolis, send the young man to his untimely grave for allegedly using an unauthorized ESWMA bag to dispose refuse in the early hours of Monday.‪ The mother of the boy, Mrs Ede David said her son, Callistus Chidebere Ede, met his untimely death when she asked him to go and dispose an already bagged refuse with grain bag on Monday morning.

According to her, “I was preparing to go to market to sell my food that morning, so as he left with the waste in our wheel-barrow to the dump site for disposal, I quickly prepared for market. “While I was going out with a tricycle operator popularly known as (KEKE), I had noise towards the area my son went to dispose refuse, I asked my sister to carry my food to the market with the KEKE man and I proceeded to the dump site to know why my son had not returned.

“When I got to the dumpsite five hefty-boys were beating him, I approached them and asked why they were beating him but none of them uttered a word.

“I asked them to stop beating him and asked my son what the matter was, but he coudnt talk because he was already too weak”.

The woman who could not control her emotion, said her son manage to tell her  that the ESWMA officials asked him to enter their vehicle and he refused because he committed no offence, “and one of the officials told me that they are beating him because he resisted arrest for disposing refuse with another bag other than ESWMA bag which is meant for the disposal of refuse in the state.

“I pleaded with them to allow him to go because he was writing his senior school certificate examination, SSCE, instead they should arrest me since he is under age and I sent him on the mission, but they refused”.

Mrs Edeh, further narrated that after all effort to dissuade them from arresting her son failed, she told her son to go with them, promising to join him immediately, “thereafter, he entered their vehicle, and “I went back to the house and got some money”

“while going to ESWMA office, I saw somebody lying on the road along Abakpa timber market but on getting closer I saw that the person lying on the road in a poll of blood is my son.”

“When I stopped I raised the alarm and people came out in their numbers and rushed him to a nearby private hospital, called Ogechi Hospital where he was confirmed death at about 3:30pm Monday.

Following his death, hundreds of people besieged the gate of ESWMA at GRA area protesting the gruesome murder of the school boy.

Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP, Ebere Amaraizu confirmed the killing of the young man by ESWMA officials.

Amarizu said  “We have received information on the alleged murder of a 17 year old boy by yet to be identified persons and investigations into the incident have commenced to ascertain their motives” he stated
