The gunmen, who rode to the house in an unmarked Toyota Camry car, were said to have forced their way into his house, shot him dead and escaped with his laptop.
Another private newspaper, Vanguard, reported Sunday that the police have recove red the gunmen's getaway car. The paper also quoted Lagos state police command spokesman Frank Mba as saying that the manhunt for the perpetrators had begun.
It was the third time in as many years that a Nigerian newspaper journalist has been shot dead in similar circumstances.
In 2007 and 2008, Godwin Agbroko and Abayomi Ogundeji, both of the private Thisd ay newspaper, were also shot dead by unknown gunmen in Lagos.
The two deaths have yet to be unravelled.
