why are Malams usually money-changers

North, East, South and West of Nigeria, not Ibo’s, not Yoruba’s, the average money changer is a Hausa Mallam.
I’m curious: why are they usually into this money changing(foreign currency into Naira notes) profession.

Your opinions are welcome.

Thats because they have access to the capital required to run such busines. They are more like retailers - buy and sell.

The business takes loads of patience, maybe these mallams are very good in practising patience

Thats the bizness they know how to do better just the same reason why Ibos are more into spare parts & electronics bizness....
