Wanted car-snatching kingpin arrested in Enugu

ENUGU— Operatives of the Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS, Enugu Police Command weekend arrested a notorious criminal who had been on the wanted list of operatives for alleged car-snatching and armed robbery crimes.

The suspect, identified as one Arinze Nwachukwu   from Akaegbeugwu, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State, was apprehended, following a distress call from residents of Atakwu, Akogbeugwu, over fight for control of revenue generated at the sand field in the community.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer,PPRO,Mr. Ebere Amaraizu,DSP, “the suspect had been on the wanted list of the operatives for various armed robbery and car-snatching incidents.

“He was arrested following a shoot-out between himself and other members of his gang over who controls the revenue accruing from the sand field at Atakwu. On hearing the sound of gunfire, residents in the area called our distress line.

“The operatives swung into action and arrested the suspect with two other members of his gang that were injured in the shoot-out. The injured ones are receiving treatment at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku,Ozalla.”

In the same vein, the Police spokesperson also revealed that SARS operatives on stop and search patrol, arrested one teenager identified as Christian Ogbodo at Iva-Valley axis of Enugu metropolis over the weekend.

He said:”the suspect was arrested with an axe tucked in his waist. When the operatives interrogated him, he confirmed that he is a member of AYES confraternity.”
