The All Progressives Congress (APC) party in Ondo State says it had uncovered plans by members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state to attack its presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.), who would be visiting Akure, the capital city today (Saturday).

State Coordinator of the Buhari Campaign Organisation (BCO) disclosed this to a SaharaReporters correspondent in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Friday afternoon.

Oyedele said that some aggrieved members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), threatened by the fast-rising popularity of Buhari in the southwest states have concluded "calculated plans" by organizing youths to attack the convoy that would accompanied its presidential candidate.

It was gathered that the planned attack might be a retaliation on the convoy of the presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday in Katsina State.

He alleged that the ruling PDP has organized thugs that would disrupt the rally penned to hold at the Democracy Park in Akure. Democracy Park is located at a busy angle and right behind the popular Oja Oba market.

Oyedele, who further confirmed the news said, "Yes, I can confirm to you that angry members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who are jealous [of] the rising popularity of our presidential candidate in person of General Buhari have organized thugs that would stoned our supporters and convoy of dignitaries that would visit in Akure today (Saturday).

"As we gathered from a reliable source with the camp of the PDP, the thugs, which were being sponsored directly by Governor Mimiko, were hired from the neighboring states.

"Their mission is to hoard stones at us and create the impression that General Buhari is not loved by the people of Ondo State.

The state BCO also informed that the matter as been reported to the police in order to ensure the adequate security safety and guarantee of its supporters.

"Already, we have called the attention of the Commissioner of Police in the state, Isaac Eke, to this planned attack and we expect that the police would pay good attention to this and ensure our security today"
he said.

A source also told our correspondent that policemen from different divisions of the state would be dispatch to the venue as early as possible to tomorrow. "We have concluded plans to draft our boys to the venue early tomorrow to avoid trouble," the source said.

Meanwhile, a member of the APC in the state, Adegboyega Aderinye, has condemned the exorbitant rate the state government billed the party for its rally today.

Aderinye said "What is the state government under Governor Olusegun Mimiko turning to, we were billed millions of Naira to use Democracy park for just a few hours? This is barbaric and uncalled for."

"The PDP-controlled government of Mimiko is a failure and we shall show them the way out by our vote," he concluded.

If Jonathan is truly the commander in chief. He would ensure himself and every Nigerian is protected from violence by strictly punishing offenders but he can't even guarantee his safety as the no. 1 citizen in a country he claims to be in control of let alone  the safety of others. Yet he keeps promising security if re-elected for a second term. Time for nigerians to start voting out incompetent leaders regardless of ethnicity or religion. To send a strong signal to the new leader that their stay in power will be determined by their overall performance and not their ethnicity or religion.
