She stated that her husband, President Goodluck Jonathan, will emerge winners of the poll. Mrs. Jonathan, who spoke in in Ilorin, Kwara State yesterday at a rally, also described the current APC government in the state as a stolen mandate and promised that the original owners of the mandate, the PDP, will reclaim it after the election. She accused leaders of the APC in the state of allegedly cornering benefits meant to the citizenry under the SURE-P, YOUWIN and other Federal Government empowerment programmes and telling lies to cover their tracks. Her words: “PDP is not shaken, as far as we are there; there is no need for trouble. You know that Mama Peace, your mother is peace-loving so the children must also be peace-loving.
Women are peace makers and any woman that makes trouble is not worth to be called a woman. “Kwara is PDP. They only stole the mandate because the Government House they are occupying today is in the name of PDP. We shall take it over. Everyday they change from one name to another and very soon they will change to Ebola and then death will come. My God that I serve has told me that they will fail. So don’t be deceived, don’t listen to their lies.”
Apparently referring to Monday’s attack on the convoy of Hajia Buhari, wife of the APC presidential candidate in Ilorin, the First Lady took a swipe at leaders of the APC alleging that they were deliberately planning the campaign itinerary of Mrs Buhari to collide with her own itinerary, all in a bid to create an atmosphere for violence between the two camps. Meanwhile, the First Lady has said that the PDP would continue to encourage women’s participation in politics to enhance national development.
She said in order for Nigerian women to enjoy 35 per cent affirmative action and even attain 50 per cent representation in government, they must support the re-election bid of her husband, President Jonathan. She gave the assurance during a meeting of Women in Politics in Ogun State held at the PDP state secretariat in Abeokuta. The First Lady, who was represented by wife of the Vice President, Hajia Aminat Namadi Sambo, called on women to massively cast their votes for Jonathan’ reelection on March 28. She also urged women in the state to exercise their civic responsibility wisely in Ogun State by the APC-led government of Senator Ibikunle Amosun. “If there is a place that we need change, it is Ogun State but we need transformation in Abuja,” the First Lady told a mammoth crowd of PDP supporters.
She added: “My dear women, I urge you to come out en masse on March 28 and vote for Mr. President. We are all aware of the good works they have started and I think it is advisable that we allow them to continue what they have started. “Women are so excited and they are so appreciative. This administration has been a gender-friendly administration and we hope the president will continue to support women to attain not only the 35 per cent affirmative action that we have been calling for but also to take it up to 50 percent.” Speaking earlier, former governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel said the PDP remained the party to beat during the general elections, adding that the party would regain control of governance in Ogun State.
