Fuel queues were seen last week after transporters went on strike over money owed them by the marketers who were in turn being owed by the Federal Government. The Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has addressed these issues saying that the fuel scarcity being witnessed in some parts of the country will end soon. She gave the assurance after a meeting with the Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN) in Abuja on Monday, May 4, 2015. They agreed that the unsettled subsidy claims would be paid even after the incoming government of President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari takes over.
Quote
"We have appealed to them (oil marketers) and you have heard them saying, following the payment of the N154bn, things will ease off. We’ve spent a considerable time talking about this and we welcome the news that have been announced by the marketers and we thank them .On our own side, we have discussed the issues they have put on the table and we are looking into them, government is a continuum and you find out that whatever the issues are, they would be resolved so that Nigerians will not suffer,"
she said. Thomas Olawore ,the Executive Secretary of MOMAN, also said that the petrol shortage would soon be over as the issues that led to it have been resolved.
