Plainclothes Policemen Spotted Carrying Out Stop and Search in Lagos (Photos)

A Gistmania member shared these photos of plainclothes policemen stopping passerby’s and searching them indiscriminately.Even those passing on bikes,are stopped,pockets searched,phones etc They are said to be officers from Soloki police station in Surulere,Lagos. Is this legal?

For every crime and wrongful arrest in Nigeria, there is police complicity. It will be a herculean task to rid the police of the bad eggs because every egg in the force is already bad.

This type of Policing is not constitutional though it might be used in some special cases.How do we know that these are real Policemen?,ID Card?.No,anybody that knows his way around Lagos or any other major city in Nigeria can forge a Police ID Card in 1 hour or even less than that. How are we sure that criminals will not cash in to take advantage of this.Meanwhile I think we have the right to free movement without being harassed by the Police.

That is Nigeria police man for you. Even see the one checking that phone wearing Gold chain in his neck.

and if they eventually sees any foreign number in your phone,
you will turn to yahoo, yahoo boys. even if you receive phone calls from your relation out side Nigeria,
they will make sure you vomit all the dollars he sent to you.
the NPF is a complete nightmares to innocent Nigerians.

I think the best practice is to demand for their Identity before conducting any of such searches on you..
If they refuse then you should refuse their searching completely....... Lord have mercy

If a plain cloth police man have to search me, then he must show me his ID o cus I don't trust reall genuine police talk less of plain clothes.

Police has no right to be on plain cloth and at the same time claiming he is on legal duty. Any police that challenge u without uniform is acting illegally and is on his own. U have the right to do him anything.
