A man, Stephen Aniogu, 46, has been arrested by the police in Lagos for allegedly battering a grandmother, Taiye Ayeni, 52 for abandoning him for another man.
Stephen was alleged to have beaten Taiye mercilessly after she dumped him and sent him out of her house for her new hearthrob simply known as Alhaji Banji.
The accused who is now facing trial at Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court for assault was alleged to have attacked the victim at her residence, 18, Mofoluwasho Street, General Bus Stop, Igando, Lagos.
Narrating the incident to P.M.NEWS, Stephen said he started dating Taiye since 2005 and he packed into her apartment where they were living as husband and wife.
He agreed that he did not marry her but he felt he was used and dumped.
“How can she dump me now after suffering for her. Why should she dump me overnight for Alhaji Banji,” he lamented.
In her response, the mother of eight children admitted that she was dating him and later got tired of him. She disclosed that since the man met her, he stopped working and depended on her for feeding and other things.
The hairdresser said she told him to find accommodation, as four of her eight children have packed into her house, adding that it will not be proper to be sleeping with him before her children.
“He felt offended. I then decided to send him away. While going out, he took my GSM phone and I asked him to return it. He called me to come outside and collect it, not knowing that it was a ploy to beat me,” she added.
She said she was beaten to a state of unconsciousness and only revived at the hospital.
The accused was later arrested and charged to court for assault.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety. The matter has been adjourned till 8 January, 2010.
