Major changes are on the cards at Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) club, Dolphins and Nigeria National League (NNL) side, Sharks, ahead of the kickoff of the 2015/16 season.
Sharks were relegated from the Nigeria top-flight after a disappointing 2014/15 campaign while Dolphins survived by the skin of their teeth after drawing 2-2 with Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) in Ibadan on the final day of the season.
The sponsors of the club, the Rivers State Government made this known through the sports commissioner, Honourable Boma Iyaye, on Wednesday during a meeting with players, officials and members of the management of the two clubs.
“The Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike is unhappy with the performances of the two clubs in the just concluded season.
“We are talking about taxpayers’ monies used in the funding of these football clubs and the least we expect is creditable displays from the two sides.
“As a result of the underwhelming performances last season, we have taken stock and decided on a total overhaul of the two clubs with a view to putting Rivers State on the national map next season.’’
