Florida Killings: Victims Profile Released,Families Warned Not To Hold Vigil For The Dead

As weeping friends and relatives of the 50 victims of the Orlando gay nightclub shooting gathered at the scene of the horrific attack the names of those murdered by lone wolf terrorist Omar Mateen began to trickle out.

As pictures of young men were released along with their names the depth of the tragedy - which also left 53 injured - began too sink in. But the Florida police asked members of the public not to hold vigils for the dead, possibly over fears of more violence.

The force tweeted: “We understand our community is grieving and vigils are being planned, but PLEASE hold off on vigils.”

They said such services "represent a serious strain on our limited resources".

Seven victims were named this evening, the first of those to be pictured who died at the Pulse nightclub was Stanley Almodovar, 23, below.

The other six named and pictured were also all young men, aged between 20 and 36, all cut down by gunfire as they ennjoyed a night out.

The dead were named as Edward Sotomayor Jr., 34, Luis Omar Ocasio-Capo, 20, Juan Ramon Guerrero, 22, Eric Ivan Ortiz-Rivera, 36, Peter O. Gonzalez-Cruz, 22, and Luis S. Vielma, also 22.

They were all murdered in cold blood by ISIS-sympathiser gunman Mateen, 29 - America’s worst ever mass shooter - and his father said he may have been motivated by his mounting anger at seeing two men kissing in Miami.

Despite Omar Mateen pledging allegiance to Islamic State in 911 calls before the massacre, his father Mir Seddique said his son was motivated by homophobia.

Most of those killed are Mexican Americans which am not surprised anyway.
