A South-south state, Akwa Ibom has allegedly started producing toothpicks named ‘Akwa Bamboo toothpicks’ with 500 sticks per pack. The production was allegedly carried out in the course of diversification of the economy and finding other avenues to create employment and generate revenue for the state. It should be noted that toothpicks have been on the importation list of hundreds of businessmen for decades despite being blacklisted by the Central Bank of Nigeria in seeking foreign exchange.
