
Leading Telecoms provider, Globacom limited, has reached out to the Nigerian Youth Service Corps by sponsoring a beauty pageant in three orientation camps in the country.
The competition, sponsored by the North East Regional office of the company took place in Jos, Yola and Maiduguri Orientation Camps.
Miss Jegede Omolabake Olubola won the Miss NYSC Jos Camp, Miss Gloria Enogenyi Omogo won the Miss NYSC, Yola Camp while Miss Mazi Ugochi Vivian won the Miss NYSC, Maiduguri camp.
Seven states, namely, Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba, Yola, Yobe and Borno with an average of 2000 Corps members per state make up the North East Territory represented in the three camps.
The Miss NYSC contest was a keen competition amongst the platoons, with each platoon showcasing the beauty and intellect of its members.
The winners of the Miss NYSC contest in the three camps were crowned and each presented with a table top refrigerator. The second runners up were presented with microwave ovens, while the first runners up left with a 14′ inch TV set each.
According to Glo’s Business Director, North East, Dr. Prince Dimkpa, Globacom’s partnership with N.Y.S.C directorate in sponsoring Miss NYSC is in line with the company’s youth segment focus. “Our aim is to bond with the youth, reaching them where they are and identifying with their passions,” he said.
Prince Dimkpa said that the NYSC orientation camps, being hubs for youth activities, have offered an opportunity for Glo to reach the young generation, adding that the Youth Service Corps programme is a veritable tool of engagement with current and prospective subscribers.
At the Jos - Plateau state show, the NYSC State Director, Mr. Nurudeen Tunde Baba-Ahmed, thanked Globacom for the partnership in making the event a huge success despite the sectarian crisis in the state.
