Bishop of Ekiti Catholic Diocese, Rev. Michael Olatunji Fagun on Monday in Ado-Ekiti disclosed to newsmen that he had been severally tempted by beautiful women. The Bishop made the disclosure while bidding the Catholic fold farewell as he clocks the retirement age of 75 years on Saturday, April 17, 2010.
He said he didn’t fall victim to the antics of women despite of the pressure and opposition of his family to his choice of being a catholic priest. According to the Bishop, who was the only surviving son of his parents, “Very many of them (ladies) tempted me, What made the difference was self-discipline. I was not only tempted by ladies, but by other things of the world. I appreciate beautiful ladies and want to have them the way you do. But the moment I have made up my mind, I was no longer bothered. If I had fallen to the temptation, I would have been a failure, but thank God, I didn’t.”
Addressing newsmen at a press conference organized by the church in preparation for the week-long send forth for the bishop who would have served for 38 years by Saturday, Fagun described the problem of the nation as ”gargantuan in nature, deep rooted.” He pointed out that “from the historical point of view, such great mess is better solved through some sort of social revolution.” Speaking on the recent visit of clerics to ailing President Umaru Yar’Adua, Bishop Fagun described the mystery surrounding the issue as sensitive and shameful. He added that the nation is enmeshed in the mess due to insincerity among the leaders and the greed for power. He said he has led fulfilled life as a priest from July 4, 1965 when he was ordained a priest in the Catholic Church.
