A woman has ended up being followed by armed men after withdrawing a huge amount of money in a Lagos State community.  No less than four dare-devil armed robbers on motorcycles at the weekend struck and robbed an unidentified woman of huge amount of money she had withdrawn from a bank and escaped.

According to Naijapals, the incident happened at Ikotun/Idimu Road in Ikotun area of Lagos where the bank was located very close to a police station.

However, the police at Ikotun Division led by CSP Tarzan Tsav pursued the robbers and eventually arrested one of the suspects. The three other suspects escaped with the bag containing the money and were still at large.

Naijapals reports that the police also recovered one of the guns the robbers used in the operation and a motorcycle which were kept at the police station as exhibits.

Eyewitness account told us that the victim went to the bank, withdrew the money and kept it inside her bag. As she was going, unknown to her the robbers who were probably monitoring her right from the bank, accosted her, pointed their gun to her face, collected the money, jumped onto their bikes and escaped.

It was gathered that the victim raised alarm which attracted the police who pursued the robbers while escaping with their bikes and eventually confronted them at Abaranje in Ikotun area.

Naijapals reports that the three other suspects escaped but the police succeeded in arresting one of them and detained him at the police station with the exhibits.
When the Ikotun Police Division was visited by reporters, the suspect was seen detained inside the cell and was said to have confessed to the crime. The DPO was not around to comment on the matter but a source at the police station confirmed the incident. The source also said that the suspect had given useful information that will assist the police to arrest the other suspects and recover the stolen money.

Meanwhile, following the incident, the Area Commander, Area M Command, Idimu, Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Augustines Akika has given directives to all the DPOs to tighten up security around the banks in the area to quell such attacks especially during this festive period.

It was gathered that Akika gave the directives to ensure that the safety of those who may want to go to banks to make withdrawals were protected. It was confirmed that security has been beefed up  around the banks with police presence on surveillance.
